I played my fair share of WoW, a number of years even. However that and Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory were the only online games I play really, I had excellent times there, probably some of the funniest times of my life. However now, I can't stand the communities because generally you are dealing with social misfits and passive aggressive kids with mummy/daddy problems. So as a result, I only play single player games - which is a shame because there are genuinely great people in multi games, but it's impossible to wade through the steaming piles of human manure that make up player bases these days. The second thing regarding single player games is that these days, companies don't bother so much with single player and are extremely focused on online aspects and because of this, the single player campaigns are super short, and extremely poor quality.

Lastly...DLC, ******* piss off. Release a game that is relatively bug free with plenty of content instead of charging premium prices for the initial buggy as **** game, then expecting further cash for DLC.

A long time mate of mine works for Dice in Sweden. EA (the publisher) are astronomically awful and push for unrealistic release dates, don't care about quality control and are the gaming equivalent of box movers. Sadly to everyone who is interested, he admits that he feels star wars battlefront (which he is working on) is catastrophically awful. Looks great, but the game is genuinely bad, and it's extremely buggy and on release it will be a pile of shit (what a surprise, seems to be the trend).

"Release first patch later", get stuffed.
Get used to paid dlc from established developers my friend....but what pisses me of more is 2nd and 3rd copies of goty editions

Can't stand borderlands in general. Predictable and boring as **** spawning of monsters and just generally childish and lacking in any proper story/features. I can't at all fathom how it became so popular, it's complete rubbish. It's fallout with less open world, less variety, less characters, less immersion and less customisation.
You are dead to me!!!

If you are talking borderlands 2...which is far superior to borderlands 1

Ah, man. This is the most disappointing thing.

only reason he is still in sweden is because he is working on it. I'll have to ask him about it again. He said that a number of quality experienced staff bailed because of poor working conditions under EA during the development of battlefield 4. As a result the environmental effects and modelling in bf4 were substandard and he says the reason why battlefield 4 was so heavy on bloom effects and weather was to hide the poor modelling and environments. Essentially the game was finished by fresh-out-of-tafe programmers and 3d artists and he feels battlefront is the same.

DICE games are buggy enough without being released prematurely which is why Battlefield 4 was so terrible on release. It was just awful. I don't have high hopes for Battlefront.

Not unexpected given how I've had problems with every BF game since BC2. Battlefield 3 took 2 months to actually get online without crashing, it was awful.

There was this great interview from Sargon of Akkad (I think) on YT with a game developer which outlined just how shit publishers are and how their decisions completely derail development. I can't find it though.

ET was amazing fun, I played a lot of that back in the day. I also only really play single player games these days too. I can't stand 90% of the idiots online, that and I just don't have the time to play them regularly and keep up with the no lives who play it non stop and are miles ahead of me. Single player = go at my own pace. :thumbsu:

Companies like EA and Activision have been pushing this for the last 5 years. It's become the norm now. Gaming kinda ****ing sucks these days, or maybe I'm getting old.

Which is why personally, my interest in games has waned in general.

I prefer to pick it up, play for a couple of hours at my own pace, pause for a coffee/beer/shit whenever I want, exploration/immersion/progression. Really feeling the part.

Running around a map trying to level-up on leaderboards that will be as relevant as last night's fish'n'chip wrapping in a few months is anathema to me. But as you said, it's increasingly where games are going. Look at GTA: San Andreas versus GTA V. The former is pound for pound one of the greatest games of all time. The latter felt like an hor d'oeuvre.

The original Deus Ex is still the high water mark as far as RPGs go. When you've got a story that has you fighting terrorists in the ruins of the Statue of Liberty, discovering Majestic 12 surveillance posts by doing a side quest, getting thrown in jail for disobeying orders, finally joining said terrorists and fleeing to Hong Kong to reverse engineer the designer virus that is controlling the population, finding out that Majestic 12 were behind the virus all along, stealing from the modern arm of the Knights Templar, fighting against a rogue AI, meeting the Illuminati, trying to stop a nuclear attack AND fighting Gray aliens...and it all makes sense, you know it's ****ing epic.

Pete Evans has been stopped from releasing a paleo cookbook for babies. Shouldn't cook babies Pete. ;)

Paleo is fine if that's what your into but I'm pretty sure Pete Evans is also an anti vaxxer now as a part of his lifestyle and as such needs to be immediately fired out of a cannon into the sun

"Follow the money, BigPharma is all about profit, not health and well-being!..."
