VHS was also cheaper and tapes had a longer recording time...

From what i can gather it's pretty much Sony's fault that Beta lost, they never initially licensed the tech to other manufactures and made that the tapes could only record an hour of video, JVC licensed the VHS tech to manufactures which bought prices down and with a two hour cassette recording time Sony never caught up.

Mum stuffed up taping it on 7 during the day. Dumb bitch taped all the ads instead of the game. Disappointed coz I hated the ABC's comparatively povvo graphics.

But then I saw my flag get a relative close-up in the last quarter and was stoked...

I remember Movieland at Noarlunga, it had a castle setup with kids movies playing and an arcade with Time Crisis and Daytona USA racers, that was the best.

I wish we still had cool video game arcades. Still around in other cities but we don't have any good ones left here in adelaide do we?

The closest thing to an arcade i know of is a small shop at Seaford shopping centre that has the Daytona USA racers, a pinball machine and a couple of other machines. There was a pinball arcade at Gepps Cross but it got shut down a while back.

I was too young for Timezone.

80s FLASHBACK!!!

That was the first video we ever rented back in 1982.

Radio Rentals, Elizabeth. They waived the $90 fee to join the video library coz we bought our VCR in the store. This bad boy was a tank...

OMG Magpiespower we had the same VCR and Death Ship was also the first movie we hired, lol my dad researched VCRS and settled on Beta cause of the superior format and TV stations used them

Dem shits was expensive!

Focus Video waived our joining fee coz the girl on the counter liked my brother.

Think that was about $70 to join or thereabouts...

we joined the big video shop in town across the road from Adelaide High, cost $90, farkers got our money then proceeded to show us a shelf with about 40 beta movies while the rest of the store had a zillion VHS

Focus video opposite Holden's was the best.

Remember Mum being chased out into the car park by a video store owner as a kid somewhere in Dernancourt i think after she tried to do the drop off and run with late fee's pending.

we hired the exorcist and my dad was away working on oil rigs so we had it for about 6 months, dad didn't know about rental periods, when we returned it they tried to bill us over a grand, only way out was to purchase the tape, $150 for a obsolete format

Yeah, we bit the bullet in '86 when Beta section of the video shop was dwindling and new releases were getting harder to come by.

VHS won the home video war. But Beta obliterated it in professional and broadcast use.

Hell, I can remember still using DigiBeta years after DVD killed the video star...

We had a top loading AKAI.

heh we updated to a Akai top loader VHS a week before the 84Port/Norwood GF, my dad was working away so it was my job to record it

yeah because we lost my dad didn't even watch the taped grand final so we taped over it
