Apparently really good, my old brother loves it and considers it the best of these "forced nostalgia" films cause it actually has a bit of heart.
Have it on the ol' not-legal download thingo to watch tomorrow.

The best thing is I can't really be blinded by nostalgia, I just genuinely like the cheesy nature of a lot of 80s stuff.

Same here, there's a fair gap between my brother and I, 10 years, so whilst he lived a lot of those things and has nostalgia for it, I don't, even though I feel I do. Family was out of work and on hard times for a long time in the 1990s after I was born, as such new material goods were rarely acquired. All the movies at home were from the 80s, as were the games and music. It made me feel as though I was there, but deep down I know I'm a 90s kid.

You should check out some Twisted Sister video clips, about as 80s cheese as it gets. What a wonderful time to have been alive.

Nostalgia fails to recreate that feeling though, cause a lot of things made in the 80s were made for the right reasons, and were made with a lot of heart put in to it. It's why I can't stand shit like Kung Fury, it's like a gen Y douche making a movie to homage what he thinks 80s movies were like based on select youtube clips, and not actually experiencing them himself.

Despite a few diamonds in the rough, the death of the current 80s fad influence on all forms of media can't come soon enough.

Haha, I'm very familiar with Twisted Sister clips. Dee Snider is a character. I loved him in Metal: A Headbanger's Journey.

I only just caught the tail end of the nineties but I think I escaped which looks like a mediocre era for growing up with the absolute saturation of technology. I hope they still spin old cartoons in the mornings.

Nice.

Just edited my above post.

I think satdy morning shows are still a thing, but it is all CGI these days, and even the animations are computer drawn.

Probably another reason the Simpsons has sucked for so long, it obviously isn't animated by hand anymore and has lost that organic feeling.

Totally agree with the Kung Fury thing. It was like 'hey, awesome, cheesy 80s tropes... well this got old fast'. Also on the cartoon animation, there's a certain lack of 'saturday morning cartoon feel' with anything produced these days (god, i'm not 40 i swear) with the purity of the animation.

I still feel nostalgia for certain 80s things though purely based on throwback media like GTA: Vice City especially, so I get a bit soppy listening to glam rock tracks featuring in that game.

I definitely love the whole New Retro Wave/Synthwave music movement that has appeared in the last few years though. Genuinely good music but sounding distinctly 80s - doesn't tire though.

That's cool, but one thing that grinds my gears, it has that fairly strong "doof" bass effect, 80s synth never went full bass like modern electronica. The bass was the backup, the rhythm and the synthesized riffs took the front n' centre. Like how it mixes in the electric guitar as well.

Far Cry Blood Dragon was one of those diamonds in the rough that managed to do a really really good homage/piss take on the 80s without it coming off as forced or disrespectful, and that soundtrack was ****ing awesome, by aussie group Power Glove. You heard the scores of Vince Dicola? Pretty much only did 2 movies, Transformers and Rocky IV, but beautifully balanced, nuances, synth scores, that cop a lot of flack for being cheesy tripe.

I've always like that synthy music, I'm a basic rock and roll guy, always will be, but synth can be great on its own, and also works really well as a score to a movie, and despite popular opinion I don't think it ages. Jan Hammer's work on Maimi Vice is top shelf scoring that few TV series's have gotten before or after.

Mass Effect was another one that had one of those soundtracks before they were officially "back".

Hotline Miami has an incredible synth soundtrack.

That's great though, the fact that it has evolved into its own thing. I think it's better with a more full, rounded sound, it makes it more legitimate than purely nostalgic or gimmicky if you get what I'm saying.

Nah I get that completely, it makes a lot of sense. It has evolved into it's own thing, combining different elements in it's production. Nothing gimmicky or illegitimate about that.

I get the gist that the entire movie is just 'look, it's Pacman!', 'look, it's Donkey Kong!', etc, etc, etc, with no plot or acting or jokes or anything.

It's a kids film, my kids loved it and it was nostalgic enough that I stayed awake.

But yes it's crap.

All I did was like the posts that I was receiving enjoyment from. As it was a 'Crows only' thread...

wow

I have read other clubs forums and decided posting was not appropriate but I never would have guessed liking was going too far

That was me with Jack & Jill. Didn't mind That's My Boy, either. Sandler/Samberg was great father/son casting.

Admittedly, I get an extra level of funny and enjoyment knowing every shitty Sandler movie that opens well at the box office pisses off "serious" film reviewers (AKA jobbing journo who likes movies) to no end.

TAKE BACK WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT, PAGOGO!!!

I liked Little Nicky and Waterboy.

Adam Sandler? Any excuse to bump this old post of Portia's.

I have a `great' idea for an Adam Sandler film actually.

He plays James "Jimmy" Fothrington III, the materialistic son of a eccentric billionaire. His dad dies, but when it comes to the will, the old man doesn't leave Sandler any money, giving it all to a trust run by <generic hot actress> the lawyer to be used in ways that Dad outlines (most of which are obscure and/or stupid, like a carnival for old people), and that there will be a small allowance for Jimmy if he works for the foundation.

When he is put in a situation by bad guy Chet Winter, where he can take a large but not huge small amount of money but destroy the foundation in the process, he is tempted to do it. Film shit happens, he hooks up with lawyer chick.

Something happens, Jimmy announces he will not go through with Chet's plan as previously agreed, but want s the foundation to go on for ever. Hooray for everyone.

At this point, hot lawyer chick reveals that there was a secret will that was the real will, that gave Jimmy full control of the foundation and all its assets, because he had proven he had seen that there were more important things in life than money and having fun. Cue end titles with stupid still photos of dumb shit Steve Buscemi and Rob Schnyder's characters have done.

****. I came up with Adam Sandler film fanfic.

I am still proud of that

Criminal lack of likes on that OP, booo Bigfooty booo

You missed the part where something happens, he decides **** it I'll take the money, then changes his heart, but before this happens, the lawyer finds out that he wanted to take the money and still thinks it is his current mindset, so then some emotional shit happens and he has to win her back in some sort of public display of warmheartedness.

That was implied, duuuuhhhh
