Oh come on... now they are just showing off.

Unfortunately it has become a self fulfilling prophecy in the US of A where maybe, just maybe, you do.

What came first, the need to protect ones self with a firearm in day to day life, or the mass murderering shooter?
If somebody draws on you or shoots you, it doesn't matter if you are armed. It's not the Wild West, it won't be quickest on the draw. You'll be down before you even realise.

The mass shootings don't seem to be stopping even with the current liberal rules.

Perhaps it isn't the quickest draw anymore, but it isn't James Bond either, it is a lot harder to shoot and kill someone than movies would you believe even when they aren't expecting it (unless you are Martin Byrant).

Anyway this is getting sidetracked from the ethics of gun control to a technical analysis of the probability of a good Samaritan packing heat like Charles Bronson being able to defend his neighbourhood from an equally armed group of murdering thugs.

Highly unlikely (unless it was the literal Charles Bronson, then the whole block would be razed Death Wish 3 style)

Curiosity got the better of me and I read Star Wars: Aftermath, the first book in a trilogy linking Jedi to Force Awakens.

Apparently Chuck Wendig, a manic writer who spits out 3000 words a day and turns around a book in a couple of months, wrote it in 45 days. And yeah, I'd believe that. Tough slog to get through.

Anyway, the whole thing really doesn't go anywhere and, if needed, could be explained away in a line or two of dialogue in the movie.

Dunno if I'll be as curious to read the next two books in the trilogy...

I love guns, they are great fun. I just don't think you need to open carry rifles or even conceal carry pistols for 'protection'.

No doubt, I went trap shooting last year and absolutely loved it.

Guns have their place, but it's not at Costco.

Struggling army vets post service are pushing to be placed in schools to protect them.

I understand it would be a good initiative to get some disadvantaged vets back on their feet, but half of these guys have severe mental concerns themselves. They literally work off "well if they bring a rifle, we will being a tank." mentality.

Summary?

Basically, everyone's stuck on this shithole planet Akiva where an Imperial summit is taking place to rebuild the Empire. There's a bunch of Rebels, a bounty hunter and an AWOL Imperial Officer running around doing their own thing, which includes rescuing Wedge, assassinating some Imperial officers, liberating and getting the f@%k outta Akiva. Along the way, a few familiar faces pop up.

But yeah, it's a bit all over the shop. And then there's Wendig's choppy prose, which reads like a treatment for a feature film. Literally went from reading Steinbeck to this, so I thought maybe I was just unfairly judging Wendig for the first 100 pages or so. But, yeah, nah...

Has to chuckle at this guide, which came with a new machine at work. Good moral advice

Presidential hopefuls have their say:

Ben Carson - "I would not just stand there and let him shoot me. I would say: 'Hey, guys, everybody attack him. He may shoot me, but he can't get us all.'"

Mike Huckabee - "We have not so much a gun problem; we have a problem with sin and evil. This is an evil thing, when people kill another person."

Bobby Jindal - "This killer's father is now lecturing us on the need for gun control and he says he has no idea how or where his son got the guns… You know why he doesn't know? Because he is not, and has never been in his son's life. He's a complete failure as a father, he should be embarrassed to even show his face in public. He's the problem here."

Jeb Bush - "We're in a difficult time in our country, and I don't think more government is necessarily the answer to this. I think we need to re-connect ourselves with everybody else."

John Kasich - "You can strip all the guns away but the people who are going to commit crimes or have problems are always going to have the guns and more and more people feel like I'd like to be able to protect myself."

Hillary Clinton - "What is wrong with us, that we can't stand up to the NRA and the gun lobby, and the gun manufacturers they represent? You know, this is not just tragic. We don't just need to pray for people. We need to act, and we need to build a movement."

Bernie Sanders - "I don't know that anybody knows what the magic solution is. What we do know is the current solution is not tenable, it is clearly not working… You got a whole lot of states in this country where people want virtually no gun control at all. And if we are going to have some success, we are going to have to start talking to each other."

I know lots of Aussies that own guns, my old man is in the middle of renewing his license, guns don't bother me in the slightest.

I don't understand the "guns are scary and nobody should own one" mentality equally as much as the "I need a small armoury of fully automatic rifles with hollow point ammunition to defend my home!"

Like I wrote earlier, I liked guns and used to own them, but I don't need guns.

It's a version of the small man syndrome, "look at me, i have an armoury that of a small army... look how big my penis is"

For all you guitar nuts out there.

When these first came out on the Gibson robots they were ridiculously expensive but they're priced right now. I'll stick to trad style for now but reckon I'll fit some to something soon. That's progress. Have you seen the peavey auto tune guitar? They're pretty cheap sounding but the options they give are impressive.
