The latest ad for Open Slather makes The Wedge look like The Office (UK).

I've had the misfortune of watching bits and pieces of that show because my girlfriend is friends with one of the actors (who is actually quite funny as a standup, so the show's utter failure is down to the writing, not the acting talent). They're trying so hard to be cool and edgy, but most of the punchlines are literally things that I thought were witty and original when I was about 13.

Even the adverts drive me nuts. It reminds me of local amateur productions with everything hammed up.

If I shouted that at the Riverbank End and someone called security I would get thrown out, possibly never to return. And quite right too. Comments like that have no place in our society. Maybe Tex Walker should go on holiday to Thailand and meet up with some of the 6'6" ladyboys there. That would shut him up.

Maybe going a bit far there mate, but yes, It's pretty disappointing that this comment has garnered no criticism from any corner of the media.

I know we do a lot of "If this was a port player..." shit here, but truly, if a Port player had made this comment, this would be the front page of the 'Tiser today, you can bank on it.

The latest ad for Open Slather makes The Wedge look like The Office (UK).

Open Slather is a weird concept, it replicates the point where those good 80s Australian sketch shows like Comedy Company and Fast Forward were dying. Lame mock versions of popular songs, 60 Minutes etc. It even brings back people who began their careers in those shows, heavens knows why. It's like attempts to bring back "Hey hey it's Saturday" and "Spicks and specks".
Re 'The Wedge' it was at least an honest attempt to start a new sketch show. In the sports sense I was surprised the Mark Wary character (who they actually did a short series on) didn't become bigger. I still remember his series of apologies affectionately.

The ABC have a decent new comedy/sketch show. Pilot Season I think it's called. Can be hit and miss but at least they are trying something new. Their female reversal show was pretty good.
