A schoolboys state team would beat the national women's team in cricket, soccer, golf, basketball, you name it.

Depending on the sport, the boys state team probably would get a bigger development budget too

There is no reason women couldn't play men's cricket. At all.

Tennis is the same, and golf. Anything non contact really.

If they're good enough they're good enough.

The problem is that they just won't be good enough. The best female athletes would cane the average Joe in most disciplines, but against their elite male counterparts they will always struggle whenever strength and speed comes into the equation. Even in a non-contact, individual sport like golf, strength is needed to cover the longer distances when playing off the men's tees.

Weight divisions in boxing exist for the same reason. It's got nothing to do with skill, it's just the physics of the contest.

I agree with cricket though. I think that is one sport when you're strength and stature doesn't have much influence on your ability to compete, especially if you're skilled with the bat. Just look at the Little Master.

Serena would crush anyone outside the top probably 30 of mens tennis, such an unknown quanitity. It's a shame we haven't seen her go up against some men.

I think reality lies somewhere in between. Serena's biggest obstacle is making her serve competitive, as she tops out at 200 km/h, and returning the faster men's serves. Most of the top men would be comfortable serving and returning 230 km/h plus thunderbolts all day long.

So I think it would be a battle for her against the best, but anyone outside the top 100 probably has enough chinks in their armour for her to exploit and make up the difference.

I think that Serena would do better today than she did as a 16 year old.

Like I said before, outside the top 100 it would be a contest.

Serena isn't just a powerhouse, she's incredibly accurate as well. She'd have better shot selection and accuracy than all but the top men.

You guys are putting the pussy on a pedestal. Serena would get flogged by every single male on the tour. Her power game would mean nothing to the men, she is not used to facing a power game in return and isn't particularly agile either. As I said, every male tennis player on the tour would beat her easily. There is no anti women thing going on here, it's just reality.

I'm on the other side, I reckon there is no reason why women can't compete in men's cricket. It would mainly just take some adjustment to men's bowling. These chicks are pretty tough.

Just to add, Serena choked and cost herself a calendar slam after losing to that Italian broad who resembled Gigi Buffon's great-grandmother on her home turf.

The equivalent would be peak Rafael Nadal losing to today's Lleyton Hewitt at the French Open. Just wouldn't happen.
