It would be nice to live in a fantasy world full of lollipops and rainbows...but unfortunately mate, we don't. The defence industry world wide is massive, and from a financial point of view companies are more likely to try to become a part of it than avoid it. It is like power. It would be lovely to re-discover Tesla's secrets and pull electricity out of the air for free. Free energy, what a wonderful thing. But, so much of our infrastructure is geared around producing energy that if it ceased it would cause anarchy world wide. Doomsayers for decades predicted that post Peak Oil Production would bring down nations...imagine closing down energy production altogether? Imagine shutting down defence industries altogether? As much as it would be an ideal world, it ain't ever going to happen, because money
I'm not sure what your argument is?
I'm saying if the argument is we can't bring in refugees because money , we have a truckload of money we are flushing down the drain.
You can't tell me 160 billion over 3/4 years on defense is a wise way to spend money. Sure it creates some jobs , but no where near enough for that kind of dosh. It is entirely mismanaged and mis directed. Too much of that money would be used to buy foreign built technology , that becomes obsolete as fast as we can get it , and adds up to little positive social impact. If you think pulling out a bunch of that funding , and buying less rockets and targeting systems and the like and spending say 80 billion on elsewhere would cost us jobs in the aus defense industry then so be it. That 80 billion is gonna create a shit load more jobs. I'm particularly talking about with drawing funds that aren't being spent in Australia anyway.
Also I'm not sure what you are talking about with the energy thing.... This is the bullshit they want idiots to buy.. That if we move away from coal dependence that the economy will go to shit and we will all be jobless.
No ones making energy out of thin air. If you take your energy from another source you still need to build crap , and hire people. Just the same thing. Wouldn't newly required infrastructure and new opportunities actually create more jobs and more new opportunities rather then maintaining an industry that has had the infrastructure since before we were born? But no , no coal will be the death of jobs and the economy will crash. Sure.
Coal isn't a cause of should we , it's just a matter of when , what and how. The smarter countries are leading the world in this regard. The countries who want to buy into the fear mongering will be left behind watching.
As I've said before change happens whether you like it or not. Might as well have some balls and try to be pro active.
