There is still energetic independent music produced in Australia, it's just no one can be arsed or is too tired to put the distractions of everyday behind them to experience it.

Support local music.
Come on then, tell me a few band names and I'll listen to them if they're available on Deezer or Spotify

I've been called a "lid" by a guy who lives in Australia - he's not originally from there I think, but since he lives there I'd imagine it's something commonly said in Australia?

Anyway, I got no idea what that means. The guy is a ******* idiot who dislikes me for some reason, I just wanted to know what I'm being called by one of those internet hard men.

I've only ever heard it used to describe someone who rides a boogie board.

"tin lids" is rhyming slang for "kids" but never heard "lid" used on its own for anything other than the literal meaning.

I'd never heard that but a check of The Encyclopaedia of Surfing shows that a bodyboarder (boogie boarder) is a "lid-rider".

He started his post with "F**k off you lid" and finished with "Typical lid behaviour", when reacting to my criticism of Liverpool fans whose first reaction after hearing of Daniel Sturridge's injury was to insult him or say derogatory stuff about the guy. I thought it was absolutely classless and it baffles me that people think of saying such things before actually feeling sorry for one of their own players.

Say no more. He is a Liverpool supporter. Maybe 'Lid' is some kind of scouse term. Given they are Bin Dippers, maybe he was referring to you being the lid of the bin..... of course, he is a Liverpool supporter, so really, would avoid conversing with him as he is more than likely, a moron.

Sturridge is so frustrating. I'm close to being annoyed at him for his injuries. But it's illogical, but he's our best player damn it how do you get 1000 training injuries in a row?

My brother played in a band that won a local battle of the bands competition.

(big whoop I know, point is though they made alright music)

Years later, after a split, the main music writer from that band who start another band, gets a gig writing music for MTV shows. Not once was he offered anything more than the occasional pub gig in Australia just so a licensed establishment can fulfill it's commitment to live music. Bypassed Australia and went straight to one of the biggest players in the music industry, after years of working the circuit in a politically incorrect rock band.

But Jet wore thongs with their suits to the ARIA awards once! Australia is soooo rock n roll!

**** me I hate the modern music scene in this country. I won't even get started on Airbourne... yet.

I blame triple j's unearthed.

The sons of mumford are an indie band.

someone kill me.

Remember when that gave us bands like Silverchair and Grinspoon?

I don't.

Urban dictionary provides the following definitions for lid:

- Common terminology used in the 1960's and 1970's in the United States to describe approximately one ounce of marijuana.
- a hat or cap
- a motorcycle helmet
- various types of baseball caps as worn by the general public (usually as a fashion statement)
- Lesbian In Denial. n. A female who in order to remain in the closet, dresses and acts like a total ****, and throws herself at guys.
- low intelligence documented:
1. If you are a L.I.D., you do not realize it because you are very stupid.
2. A L.I.D. patient will always deny they are of low intelligence.
3. most L.I.D. patients are very unhygenic. They spit in sinks with dishes and never wash their hands.

Hope this helps.

Maybe Liverpool should hire someone good as their fitness coach.
He was probably fitter than Joe Cole at Liverpool

I dunno, we do have the longest injury list in the league.

I've lived in Australia for 5 decades and have heard of many names an Aussie calls another person. A "lid" is not one of them

Spacebong, Hydromedusa, Crypt, Mammoth if you want some dirty punk, doom/blues, crusty stuff.
Truth Corroded, Alkira, Couldran Black Ram if you want some Metal.
The Grenadeirs are pretty cool with the three piece punk thing. The Mark Of Cain are the seminal post punk/hard rock band from Adelaide & have been around for ever. Some of these will be on spotify/iTunes but you may need to go on bandcamp or YouTube for the others.
These are some of what I'm exposed to, being into punk & metal. Happy listening.

Don't know in this context. Do you ride a bike, usually slang for a helmet.

Lid is also used to describe a head, for instance, "Justin Westhoff has a weird lid".

Yes, you can 'flip your lid', 'blow your lid' etc. But being a lid? Maybe diegodcg should ask for a "Please explain" so we can all be enlightened on this new Australian vernacular
