When Mad Max had announced to film here, many property owners refurbished their houses and other people starting buying, with the intention to rent out to the film crew for 3 years, and make a quick return. When they pulled the plug there was something of a mini recession locally.

So that's where your "it's bloody un-Austrayyyyn!" grudge against Fury Rd. comes from

Partially, yea.

Also from being financed by an American studio, filmed in Africa, and starring a Brit in the title role. It's unclear whether the story is even still set in Australia.

With the video game having the golden gate bridge on the cover, its clear the franchise isn't as dinky di as the Australian"cling to anything vaguely connected to us that becomes uber successful" would try to sell us.

The relief newsreader on Sunrise last week was stunning*

*not sure if appropriate way to describe a woman these days but I'm sure the people that know will be here to let me know very soon.
Got anything else to say about her?

It was evident that she could read the autocue and hold her own in the breakfast time shenanigans. She was also well versed in the martial art of witty repartee.

And she was stunning.

I only watched it last night and I agree. Outside of a few token accents it's really not clear.

I said this last night ITT but they should have just called it something else because it's much more a spiritual successor than an actual sequel. But I haven't seen the third one, is that more akin to Fury Road?

The third one starts well but it's all downhill after thunderdome. Skip to the final shot of a post apocalyptic Sydney and Tina Turner's theme song and spare yourself the Peter Pan stuff.

best thing on the internet

I like Disturbed, but this video is so right. I stop listening to them for vast periods of time before going back to them because every song sounds the ****ing same.

Yep, I like them as well, but ****ed if I could (and I have tried!) listen to an album start finish and describe it more deeply than "Some songs have more melodic choruses than others"

I like:
Decemberists
Sufjan Stevens
Belle and Sebastian
The Mountain Goats

And stuff like that. So a band like Disturbed may as well be Satan's Own Phlegm as far as I know.

lol the decemberists, jesus christ they are easily the most suicidal sounding band in the history of man.

I like Belle and Sebastian, saw them at Taronga Zoo last summer. I also like Sepultura and some other heavy rockin dudes.

Diversity in music is ok man.

I wish they'd come to Adelaide when they tour Australia (if ever they do again), saw them in 11 or 12 at Her Majesty's. Was great fun. B&S that is.

As for diversity, I also like... <scrolling through library>... nah that list pretty much sums up my diverse taste.
