It's the ethos I'm talking about. No different to the '60's revolution really. Elvis' pelvis was true punk man

no one comes close to the sex pistols - they basically created the punk movement = nooooooooooooooooooooooo future

Punk was around long before the British knew what the **** it was.

I like rock. I also like swing
When Dire Straits first toured Australia (1981?) their Adelaide gig was in Festival Theatre. We had seats in row four or five. Mark Knopfler kept complaining about how the carpet was soaking up all the music. Next time they toured they played Memorial Drive.

Mark Knopfler would complain about the price of a free head job.

Case in point

This is one of my favourite all time sax solos, not so much because of the musicality, but it gave Roy an HG some great material to rabbit on about for the next 2 hours or so during the Rugby League grand final.

You should never have to apologise for the style of music you like or the artists that perform it. That's why it's art - it's subjective to the taste of the individual.

I love modern abstract paintings because I feel a connection to the pure emotion of the piece without the need of the prison of form and structure...but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate other styles for their own unique beauty. When I was heavily into music, I had Strauss next to NWA, Minor Threat next to Rage Against the Machine and Metallica next to Primus.

When an artist performs a guitar solo at a live concert, it's akin to them painting a new version of the masterpiece they created. I don't want to see a band paint by numbers and perform exactly the same way as the album...surprise me by taking the structure and form of the song to create a new piece of art that only those that were there can purely appreciate.
Minor Threat >>>>>>>

Stick to your Ramones guns mate.

Question, as a Ramones fanatic myself, I've always preferred the more complex, hard rock style 80s era, than the punk era of the 70s. I feel like, as a fan, I'm definitely in the minority.

Then again, I also like Paul D'iano as the Maiden vocalist.
I don't think the Ramones did anything I dislike.

I really enjoy the time CJ Ramone was in the band because he was first and foremost a huge fan of them. Truly the case of the fan who got lucky to play with them.

And sings in one of my favorite Ramones songs:

I do like the Sex Pistols but they're not even close to the Ramones and the Clash... They're not even the first in the UK...

I remember buying the album with the song above for a small fortune in a crappy music store in the centre of Rio when I was about 14. Just a few years later I could have downloaded it in minutes. There's a certain romance in struggling to having access to the music you love but I don't miss it at all.

The Ramones- overrated
Garage Punk started in the mid sixties,
have a listen to The missing links and
The sonics. Way cool!
Punk is an attitude

Yeah but that's nowhere as much an apt comparison as you might think it is. It's like The Monkees vs The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. The Sex Pistols music/image was briefly good and God Save The Queen* Never Mind The Bollocks was a must-have album. But they were a Malcolm McLaren creation yada yada.

Yeah that's true. I just meant to say the Ramones and the Clash are a level above Sex Pistols, no matter the popular impact they had at the time. The Clash are quite possibly my favourite band, though it's never easy to pick just one. London Calling is the best album ever though, no doubt about that. ;)
