Vinyl definitely gives better sound quality because it isnt compressed like a cd or other digital files. It's music in its raw format. Of course if you have a shitty record player / amp / speakers etc it defeats the purpose. But there is nothing like kicking back after a few g&T's and putting a bit of Floyd on the turntable.

If vinyl isn't your thing, get yourself a good DAC and only stream flacs (or tidal).

Vinyl wins the battle every day hands down, but you can definitely make a digital file sound good too if you really want to. You just can't skimp on the gear.
Found myself a technics turntable, what sort of speakers /amp best suits vinyl.

Looking at spending about 1 grand.

Speakers are to your own preference, but be warned you won't get much if you want an amp and speakers for a grand. For that money I'd suggest possibly going second hand. Take a look at what's on the market and then scan the audiophile sites for reviews.

With the amp make sure it's got a phono pre amp, and also to save loot I'd suggest just getting a two channel. If you just want it for the tunes then don't need all the home theatre add ins.

Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition was great.
I never owned Midnight Club 3, but I played it quite a bit on the Xbox at a mates house. It was pretty awesome.
I might see if I can hunt down an old Xbox copy.

I've got Midnight Club LA on the 360, that was decent too. Never did finish it though.

I have got some speakers that i am happy to off load. These are speakers that came with my Technics HIFI SYSTEM 20 years ago, didn't throw them out cause i love the sound they produce. They are bit shabby, but work well. PM me if your interested, happy to off load for nothing. If you would of asked me 2 months ago, i could of given you the Technics AMP with Preamp input.

Before digital came in to play, analogue is much clearer that digital and has a warmer sound. I can remember people going on about digital MP3 sound vs Analogue and people raving on about high frequency sound that you dont get from Analogue, but what they didn't realise, that humans can only hear to a certain frequency where digital sound has sound frequencies way and above of what humans can hear. The only advantage for digital music files is that it can be played on any electronics that can play the codec file. The other massive advantage is that digital music doesn't need mechanical moving parts to play a music file. MP3 music is like the old vintage cars against the new, made cheaper with shit that you dont really need.

Any musician will tell ya that the valve amp is much better than the digital......but only for those who are brought up in the VALVE AMP years.

I live on a beautiful property east of Melbourne. European Wasps have made a nest in a rock retaining wall 15 metres from the front verandah. I have to spray the bastards and kill them before they breed or the dog gets killed. I think I would prefer to shirt front Charlie Dixon than sneak right up to the entrance of a wasp nest in the half light.

If you're ever looking for a decent set of fronts, a fantastic bang for buck brand is Paradigm (Canadian).

They compete with gear twice their price.

My first car had a tapedeck only, so I used to "rip" cd's to cassette.

Only later did I realise that it was playing at 75% speed because it was crap and all my cd's then sounded too fast, like that fatboy slim song, made me feel sick
My first car had an AM radio. :$

I bolted a cassette player under the dash. I used to "rip" vinyl to cassette and drove around with a couple of huge cassette storage boxes in the car. The tape player eating tape and cassettes left on the dash melting was a common occurrence :(

Nothing inherently "hipster" about cassette's. There was a time when these were a perfectly viable format, some bands releasing cassette only demo's. Umbrella Music (an Adelaide shop of times past) had a wall of such cassette's. Also, cassette's were a simple way of trading music (via classified ads in fanzines) with people at all points of the globe. Viva la cassette!!

That is exactly how I first heard the musical wonders that were, in no particular order, Purple Vulture Shit, Perdition, The Disciples of Jim Jones, The Twenty Second Sect etc etc.

Good times.

Still miss my "Top of the Pops '72" that got chewed up in about '82

Dunno about European wasps, but when we were living out of town and used to get 3 or 4 different types of paper wasps nesting around the house, I used a decent vacuum on them. Sucked them all up before they could react. Once they become established though...I didn't have the guts

Heard an old German guy on radio who lives in the Adelaide Hills talking about ^. What they did in Europe was get a sheep's head or any
meaty equivalent and put poison in it. Wasps attracted, feed on it and bingo. He swore by it. Will/would it work ?

Still got a cassette from this wonderfully random/weird Rio band (surprised to find them on youtube too):

I wonder what the hell they're doing these days

The other suggestion I've been given was to put some small holes in a coke bottle and add vodka/alcohol and fresh meat. I'm not sure how poisoning/trapping away from the nest kills the queen. I've given myself a week of daily dusting the nest and I'll call a pro. I've just dragged my curious cat away from the entrance and by the look of it she's going straight back...

Back in about 1985, a salesman told me that these new-fangled CD's sound even better than vinyl. Still waiting for this miracle of sound

I don't think it's ever as clear cut as medium A sounds better than medium B. There are too many factors to consider.

When CDs first came out, the sound quality was not quite there yet when compared to their vinyl counterparts, but CD quality (like anything) has improved over time. It depends on how the album was recorded and mixed too. Modern production techniques usually involve pushing everything to its sonic limit. This can come off sounding distorted even at low levels. There are numerous articles related to 'loudness wars' if you're curious about it. A lot of the time I prefer albums on CD in their first incarnation, before they were remastered.

In my experience though, a well recorded album on analog format, through a quality sound system is always the winner. Some CDs can still sound fantastic and even some tapes, provided theyve not been played to death. You have to compare oranges with oranges though.

I recently bought a mid-70s era Pioneer turntable and was listening to Alice in Chain's 'Dirt' (an album I've heard many, many times. I could not get over how amazing this recently reissued vinyl sounded. There were all these little nuances I'd never noticed before.

I've got an original Marantz gold system, vinyl sounds awesome on it

I have a few coloured vinyl and picture discs that sound like ass. It's gotta be heavyweight and black.

(I hate wasps)
Ha, that would be nice. I've got a couple of litres of old two stroke that is destined for the small mountain of plant material that will go up in May and I have seriously considered tipping it in there and lighting it up. I like my hair and skin where it is too much to actually do that though.
