Need For Speed 'High Stakes' or GTFO
THPS soundtracks are GOAT, but old NFS soundtracks (particularly High Stakes) are pretty amazing too.

I posted this in the What are you listening to right now? thread yonks ago.

Bugger, I missed the nineties music discussion.
Beyond Rollins Band, Radiohead and The Melvins what that decade produced was a lot of garbage.

I draw more from this than 99% of the music from that era

I have the first Melvins release, a 7" ep released in 1986 on C/Z Records with Matt Lukin on bass before he went and did Mudhoney. Still have the original $6.99 price tag sticker on it. Was later re-released as a 12", then on CD. The original 7" is rare as ****.

Did I inadvertently start a 90s music discussion?

Anyhow, based on its rousing reception, totes gonna wear my Guernsey round Radelaide this weekend, if anyone sees a bloke cruising around in it down Rundle feel free to call out "edgie ya w***er".

Unless I'm next to a short stocky dark skinned man in stubbie shorts. That's my dad and he won't take kindly to it, and I strongly discourage anyone from punching on with southpaws.

No really, I was watching a tape from a boxing match I had with a southpaw, and my head was used as a speedball for about 40 seconds. It was a more embarrassing performance than Dada 5000 vs Kimbo Slice.

Anyhow, for something more constructive, thinking of going to the crows game on Sunday to see Buddy. What is the general experience to expect going plain clothed to a crows home game?

All I remember about Savage Garden is something about cherry cola, and the missus and young daughters liked them. That equals 'pop' music

Indeed but in looking back there is genuine musicianship and crafting in their songwriting. I guess, compared to pop music of current, anything looks good in hindsight. I mean, the solo to To The Moon and Back. Won't find that in Nikki Minaj/Bieber/1D.

Got the old Xbox out, playing some Def Jam: Fight for NY.
Time for Slick Rick to beat on Sean Paul.

Uploaded on my mobile, sorry if it's massive. I lowered the res before uploading it.

Ah, Mudhoney. I was fortunate enough to have a friend with an older brother who had an extensive record collection who pushed Mudhoney's debut upon my lower middle class suburban sensibilities. I thought Slayer etc and the burgeoning death metal scene out of the states & Scandinavia where rescuing me from all the Chisel, Barnsey, eighties bland garbage flooding me. Mudhoney, and then Fugazi, Melvins, filtering back to Black Flag, Minor Threat and their ilk convinced me you could be suburban, raucous, sensitive, intelligent and aggressive all at once. And be happy with it.

I often think of that friend's brother and think of the debt I owe him. I try to get younger people to find music outside their comfort zone as music is a constant, the right track always able to match, right or challenge a need.

The eighties were a time to get drunk, stoned and forget about the current music scene. People say "Hey, but Heavy Metal became big in the '80s?" I say "Heavy Metal married pop in the '80s" Most 80's music makes me shudder. The shift from the '80s to the '90s was interesting however

Haha, what the **** is this
Never heard of it before?
I loved it back in my gangsta rap obsessed teen years.
It's a wrestling/fighting game.
Completely ridiculous, but entertaining nonetheless.

Miss the whole thrash metal thing or

You got a little too drunk and stoned. You missed some classics and some emerging trends. In no way did Heavy Metal marry pop. The whole hair metal scene had more in common with Bowie, Queen, and yes, acca dacca, than actual metal pioneers like Sabbath, Deep Purple, Zeppelin, etc. You missed metal icons like the big 4, plus Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, which all came to prominence, and countless other lesser lights.

On that, if there is one thing I can't stand it is modern hair metal revival bands. They suck. All of them. The only good one is Steel Panther and its a parody comedy act ffs. With your jet black hair, piercings, tattoos, and other modern trends, you'll never be CC Deville. Also the music sucks. It is the most dead variety of music and should be looked at in hindsight only. Let those that were there continue to make music and once they pull stumps, that's it. No more. Disclaimer, I helped write music that I'm proud of for one of these type groups. I enjoyed it but it was a charade.

Steelwing are badass

Sounds more like Piece of Mind era Maiden than Ratt, which is a good thing. Also some synth.

Synth is the most unfairly judged kind of music, I'm glad it is enjoying both a musical revival and also a revival in movie scoring. Whenever someone jokes about the 80s and uses synth as a punchline I shake my head. There was some good shit made with synth and a lot of potential in the genre that was stalled for 20 years.

It was called Heavy Metal, mate. Newsagents were full of metal magazines promoting Warrant, Poison, Bon Jovi, and un-makeuped KISS. It was a money grabbing marriage, full of record company slavery, which ultimately spawned the Indie industry and Grunge popularity
