Is industry and the falling power (relevance?) of unions and continual loss of manual labour jobs not pretty universal?
Not in the US style, their unions are a very different beast to those from Europe.

Definitely agreed two is underrated, the Sobotkas were great. Season four to me is the crux of the show - no matter how hard you try to fix the system, the people with real power don't want it fixed.
When it comes to characters on a personal level, the kids, Carcetti, Bubbles - it all comes full circle and only the lucky ones get out (Namond). Dukie and Randy's arcs were heartbreaking.
Ziggy is ****ing awful though. Frank is tragic, one of the most tragic in the show, but I guess most characters in it are tragic.

I love this line Frank delivers to that piece of shit Valchek, couldn't find a video on the net.

Valchek: You don't want my finger in your eye, you better do what's right here.

Frank: What's right? What's right would be for you to come down here to my house like a decent human being and ask a common courtesy.
But that's not you, it's not your way.
My old man always said you were a half-ass punk over at Holy Redeemer as a kid.
My sister said you were a pain in the ass pest at all them CYO dances where none of the girls would even look at you.
Damn near everyone at the Point said when you got your badge it was too much for anybody named Valchek to have a patrolman's drag.
And sure enough, you've been an official arseh*le every day since.
**** you! And your window!

Still, I think it was a great way to tell of the growing problems amongst the working/lower class outside of the war on drugs and black communities. It just strengthed the show for me - its ability to tell the tale in different communities, with different people.

I enjoyed it (and I enjoy similar stuff in mafia films), I'm just reasoning out its lack of popularity.

I didn't mind Ziggy too much because I know a few personalities like him and he's just a hardcore example of an attention-depraved kid who gets in way, way too deep. Frank would be up there as the most tragic for mine because he was just turning a blind eye to try and save the docks, he wasn't doing it for himself.

Also re: your "supermarkets are cathedrals" quote before, ironic how Omar goes out. Incredible foreshadowing/writing.

Literally all I know from the wire is "YOU COME TO TALK TO ME ABOUT MONEY LAUNDERING? IN WEST BALTIMORE? SHIIIIIIIEEEET."

Haven't watched any at all. I'm just not a "watcher" of shows, my attention span is too short. Yet for some reason, I can binge watch my secret guilty pleasure of Star Trek.

Season 5 actually holds up alright on a rewatch. I think it's a bit too fantastical, relatively, on the first go that it leaves a bad taste. But I celebrate the whole damn catalogue. It's so clearly the GOAT, that it has almost ruined every other show.

David Simon's mini-series starring Oscarn 'Show Me a Hero' from last year is a worth a look (but ooooooh social agenda being pushed...)

Was that Rick's parting gift or the new incumbent installing their brand on the organisation?

I'm at CBS now, which is under the AGD umbrella but not AGD itself so to speak. However I always found Rick to play massive favourites and give jobs for the boys (all executives were very long term friends of his), so I suspect he will gut some of AGD and take them with him to DECD. My partner works at DECD, and I've made her worried telling her the AGD stories, haha.

I'm hopeful that Mealor will get the job full-time. She's very good at her job.

So then you may know Jake Bonnici

Speaking of TV, I'm halfway through Daredevil series 2. Quite happy with what they've done with the Punisher, my only complaint would be the slight southern twang to his accent. He's not from Texas. Otherwise, tis fine.

Should be a warning on rhubarb like on the Pringles that contained Olestra, "May cause loose stools"
