I don't mind Australia generally in terms of the economy. I feel like we could do better but our welfare system is better than a lot of countries, although it's always threatened by a conservative government.

Morally though we're a total embarrassment. Not having marriage equality sorted in 2016 is alarmingly f***ed. Being so backwards environmentally that the Coalition has politically engineered this economy vs environment you-can't-have-both dichotomy in 2016 is f***ed. Holding asylum seekers in offshore concentration camps where they are subject to flagrant human rights abuses is the most f***ed thing of all.

Climate change, wonder if it will be an official religion next census?

Well actually if you want to go down the Jewish Kabbalistic tradition ......
This is Australia and our head of state is also the head of a christian religion, chosen by god, so the christian version of the fantasy, aka the old testament, is the one true version.

Note how this was done there. These decisions dont make them less socially conservative, the majority of the population rejects them, good luck getting gay marriage elected by the people in the US when every politician runs around with their religion on their sleeve and needs to be seen as a good Christian or whatever to even get elected.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say there. You do realise in the majority of States in the US (United States of America (USA) America Land of the Free) that same sex marriage is legal don't you. I think it's over two thirds now. Even in the bible belt progress has been made.

Well to be fair the Church of England was only created by Henry VIII cause he wanted to get rid of another wife and the Catholic Church wouldn't let him divorce her...which was based on Christ's teachings. He said that God hated a divorcing and that Moses only allowed the Jews to do so out of consideration for their "hard hearted" nature. So technically, Australia's head of state doesn't follow the Christian version at all...as evidenced by the fact that her first born son did exactly what Henry VIII did.

You are confusing christian with catholic.

As a person of Irish Catholic heritage I certainly understand the differences between the Church of England and the Roman Catholic Church. :)

Like anyone would think a generation that made One Direction, Justin Beiber and the like popular was educated on transcontinental politics and the economic ramifications of it.

All the youth today have is homogenised and pasteurised thinking. That's why people get so offended if you have a contrarian view. "You can't say that!" Well, open your ears, because I just did.

"Hey moms and pops Joey and I were just hanging out doing nothing and God came and put a baby in me"

"oh ok sounds legit"

Mary and Joseph were already betrothed, which was as good as married. That's why all he had to do was take her to his home for it to be official according to Jewish tradition.

If you believe the story, Joseph was going to secretly divorce her because he thought she had rode the baloney pony of some other guy, but it was only cause God said "Yeah, sorry guy, it was me who got in there first" that he didn't. If he wanted to just have sex with her he could have just taken her to his crib and that would of have been that.

I worry about you sometimes Janus.

The reoccurrence of the same name (referring to different people) can be misleading for starters.

Did lol at the thought that the most 'misleading' part of the bible was the recurring names.

Sometimes? :D

One political alignment test - 52% Labor, 48% Greens, 22% LNP. The other? 66% LNP, 26% Labor, 18% Greens.

The first one is more accurate of my actual beliefs because I picked other for quite a lot of questions.

I dance on the inside :p

I'm of the understanding that their states have the same legal power as ours when it comes down to it, getting an activist group of judges to invent a reason to make it legal is not exactly community binding. Obama had to go to the courts because he had no hope of getting it done via the federal houses, a sad way for it to happen as you'll get generations not accepting it more this way. Let's face it, there's some parts of the USA which being gay won't be a life supporting option for a long time yet.

Who the **** knew Fred Nile supported the pear?

This thread is great, a good example of why when remain lost it was hard to handle for the minority who thought they were on the 'right' way of thinking and the realisation the majority didn't agree.

It's easier to just yell racist etc
