I think it's only compulsory to vote if you're enrolled and I don't think it's compulsory to enroll. I could be wrong. Even still, I think Australia's one of about 11 countries which has compulsory voting.

Yeah have had a couple of mates test it out and then get fined and sook about it. If you don't enrol then you never have to vote.

Yep. I voted at about 4, and by then all the party pushers were just giving vacant stares. Katter was never going to lose our local seat

on one hand, claims he can form a majority government (highly unlikely)

I received one - wrote a letter saying I'm no longer resident in Australia and they waived it.

My name is no longer on the roll.

Rankor We were having a a discussion a few weeks ago about setting up a stc-1000 for homebrew beer, Finally got mine all hooked up last night and you were right, it was a piece of piss to wire up and i made an insulated box, i did choose to wire up a powerpoint but just a single outlet because i'm only using the heating element.

Did you have to wire up a lamp for your brew fridge? i have a cheap heat belt but it might not give adequate heat.

I have heating and cooling wired up. Chest freezer plugged into cooling and for heating I just have a desk lamp inside the freezer with the power cord hanging out plugged into the heating cord.

It heats up just fine so I think you should be all good.

Just chuck the it in ad away you go.

I cover my fermenter in a towel so no light gets to the brew to.

This is a myth. Howard had a negative impact on Australia's economy, and surpluses/defecits have literally no positive (or negative) impact on a country's economy.

I'm super pissed off right now because allegedly my local Labor candidate Michael Danby preferenced the liberals above the greens, meaning that if he is in 3rd place he will hand the liberals the seat, and for what? I'm not sure if it is really true, because from my memory the how to vote cards had the greens first (though after nearly all independants) but even the consideration of that option is just plain shit.

No, it really isn't. Where do you think the money that insulated the economy from the GFC came from? A money tree? We have gone through something like 22 quarters without a recession thanks to having a surplus.

Howard and Costello set up a future fund so that the public servants in the government would be fully funded with their superannuation and future governments wouldn't have to dip into general revenue to cover the costs, which meant greater spending in other areas down the track. But that doesn't buy votes from the stupids who can only see what is directly affecting them. So Labor gleefully dipped into it while promoting economy killers like the mining tax and carbon tax to appease the Greens.

As I said - great at running the economy, shit at selling it to voters because that's all they can do.
