Janus mate, politics has changed, left/right is like Coke/Pepsi in that it suits Coke & Pepsi to have you believe they are your only choices but its a lie.

I am sure there are issues on which the Greens have plenty in common with members of both major parties, eg the same sex marriage deal.

So what you're saying is - the government can hit the accelerator and the RBA can hit the brake, but they don't create the fuel to make the car run, nor know how the engine actually works?

Cool. Exactly what I meant.
No. You're saying the Liberals drive better than Labor. I'm saying the accelerator's not directly connected to the fuel supply no matter who's in the driver's seat.

Fair enough :)

The reason the money was there for the ALP to hand out in their "please vote for us" showbag was because it wasn't spent by the previous government. If the stimulus package was the key tactic that enabled Australia to navigate through the GFC with minimal damage, then the fact that the money was available was a crucial part of being able to implement it. The fact that any government was putting money away for future cash requirements should be lauded.

Regardless of your political leaning, this should be obvious.
So much this. There must be a large portion of Greens and ALP politicians hoping any plebiscite or vote is a No. Every ad for the Greens on the net I saw the last month was about same sex equality. ALPs was Someone is stupid enough to want a business that'd lose billions a year and equality. Get it out the way and a lot of the protest vote against the Coalition disappears.

Well I sure hope so.

Fixed. Not because of Labour or Liberal. Just like the GFC was outside of our control.

Whilst I'm not adverse to a large dose of cynicism myself at times, how about thinking about what it might be like to be gay if and when idiots turn nasty during a highly politicised national plebiscite on the matter. Even just listening to that debate if you were gay would be destructive. Just ****ing pass the legislation, don't play games with people's lives to appease the Tea Party freaks who hope the whole thing gets brought down by just this sort of politics.

Ah, align the parties with their signature soft drinks. I suppose the ALP is older so has to be Coke. Leaving the Coalition as Pepsi.
Starting it off -

Democratic Labor Party - Classic Coke. Someone thought it was a good idea, but then everyone decided it tasted like shit and went back to the original.

Australian (marriage) equality party - Schweppes Pink Lemonade.

So in your rush to sprout the party line, you didn't even read the bit you crossed out?

Which party's line do you think I spout? I read it and I think it's wrong. In terms of broader economic policy I don't think that either party is better or more in control than the other. That money was there because of the mining boom. In terms of the GFC Labour's classic Keynesian approach was clearly more effective than "Debt and Deficit Disaster", as evidenced in Britain with just how pissed off everyone is with austerity.

Saying Liberal under Howard done a great job turning in surpluses in his reign is about the same as saying we done a great job between 2001 - 2007. Yeah, we did get a flag... but we coulda done more given what we had going for us.

I read it and I think it's wrong.

Read it again and tell me where exactly it is wrong.

That money was there because of the mining boom.

... AND WAS NOT SPENT WHICH WAS THE POINT OF THE POST.

The mining/China boom didn't make the decision to put the money away for a potentially rainy future, that was done by the govt of the day.

Oh yeah if anyone is thinking of seeing independance day, don't. It's ****ing awful. There are so many characters and absolutely none of them have any character development. Will smiths son from the first one is the worst actor i've ever ****ing seen. There is like 14 super human women and men heroes from every culture (better make sure not to offend anyone) who are amazing at everything and none of them are remotely interesting.

Oh, all of them have love interests and it's all happy ever after because plot. They even manage to swing in a gay couple in the last 5 minutes, because. They had sort of dropped silly hints throughout the movie but then at the end they held hands and spoke about cardigans. That sort of tokenism obvious after thought is so ****ing typical.

Also, plot holes.

You didn't know this in advance?

You didn't know this in advance?

I gave it a go because it was 9:30 on saturday night and i had just trashed my mates in a session of semi-drunken bowling. I was on a high.

There use to be a really funny review of the first one on here http://www.intuitor.com/moviephysics/, but it's been archived off to a book. They end up trying to calculate the mass and elevation of the bigass mothership and basically it would have been enough to completely **** up the planet as is due to gravity. :D

THEY PUT THAT IN THE SECOND ONE!

The mothership that was like 500x bigger than the original (because sequals have to have bigger enemies) affected the gravity and tore up cities into the air.

However, when it left at the end...it did nothing and affected nobody. Yeah...
