Why? $50m / km is pretty standard cost. Melbourne has 249 kms of tram tracks and they reckon it would cost $30bil+ to put it in new new from scratch. Sydney have looked at it and with rolling stock it's over $100m per km. The Gold Coast tram was either $1.2bil for 16 kms or $1.6b for 12 kms. Pretty sure it was less than $100m/km. Seattle's expansion a few years ago averaged at $35m USD per km.

It will come in way over budget. When our buses dont run on time, electrify one train line etc and we prioritise 1km of tram line to nowhere that will screw up traffic etc, thats typical SA
