Up to episode 4 of stranger things... not bad so far.
This is the same as the old "memory card corruption" that used to plague 90's console players, nothing worse than losing every game save because of an dodgy memory card.
Nintendo never had the problem!
Seriously though, people never complained with as much hyperbole and self importance back then.
To me, the 80s setting was less about the "phwoar, 80s!", and more about the attitude. Kids playing innocently and imaginatively, parents not caring if they roam around on their bikes at all hours, no mobile phones to convolute plot lines. People smoking frequently... ok that has no bearing on anything, it's just funny to see.
It could have been any period of time before the turn of the century, really. I guess the 80s was picked as a homage to the classic films of that era.
The songs or the score? I love synth scores and reckon they work with anything.
Both. I dig the synth but can do without hearing ToTo

Maybe it depends on how old you were in the 80's.
crankin' the toto
i still cant believe toto made the score for what should have been one of the greatest sci fi movies ever
Definitely not old enough!
There's a heap of nods to 80's movies in Stranger Things. It's good regardless IMO, but if those movies were ones you watched / grew up with then it pushes the show up a couple of notches. To me, the 80s setting was less about the "phwoar, 80s!", and more about the attitude.
