Is Wayne "Lightning" Truscott still dominating the golf tournaments?

Triple J became to popular for its own good. They used to get away with a lot more because they always flew under the radar. Also the other thing that makes it horrible these days is the stupid presenters that just have zero personalities and just try to push their stupid agendas to think they are influencing the masses. When really they just come off sounding like pretentious w***ers.

As for the music well its been no different to what it has been the last 15-20 years... Thing is your probably not 16-25 anymore and your not exactly the target demographic. It reminds me of people who are all "oh football in the 80's was sooooo much better". People always look back with rose coloured glasses.

No, the style they play has definitely changed.

Back in the late 90s it was predominantly indie rock. Now there is a ton of hip hop, folksy stuff and electronica throw in. It was there in the 90s but in much smaller doses and through quality control was much better.

This happens because nova listeners vote lots of crap into the hottest 100, so more of it gets played every year.

Instead of hearing Spiderbait, jebediah and regurgitator I'm tuning in to hear 360, skrillex and Angus stone. Just like on nova.

Compare the genres as you look through this years 100 when compared to 100s from the 90s.

Make no mistake, if they'd been as flaky with what they allow on air in 1995 as they are now, wonderwall would have made way for La bouche's Be My Lover as the winner of the hottest 100.

Na not at all. The only change in Genres have been with the music styles that are popular at the time. For instance Aussie hip hip was just not big in the 90's today it is. Likewise Dubstep/electro. To the kids of today their Spiderbait, Jebadiah and Regurgitator is people like 360, Skrillex and Angus Stone.

Take the 1999 countdown for example. I would say at least 16 of the top 20 would have been played regularly on commercial radio and thats not even including things like Madison Avenue coming in at 22...

Yeah, but I think the style needs to change really.

When JJJ had 90s week a few months back, that irked me. Sure I liked the music that was being played, but I remember how important JJJ was to me as a kid because I was sick to death of having "the best of the 60s, 70s and 80s" shoved down my throat, and wanted to hear what was happening right now. *

Its youth-oriented radio, and I reckon that any music from a year that the average 16 year old wasn't born in yet has little or no place on it.

I still like picking up bands and singers that I hear various places, when JJJ focuses on new talent I know I appreciate it, and I really feel that turning Triple J into a stagnant monument to the old millenium is the sort of bullshit anachronistic thing that Boomers have done. Lets move on, people.

* You could argue that JJJ filled a desperate need at the time given the infancy of the internet; a need that isn't there now with the instant availability of music. To be honest, I'm actually far more likely to discover new music now through Spotify than Triple J, but if we're going to pay to maintain old media (ABC), at least let them achieve their stated goals.
Well from that bitchy post can I asume that your transistor radiomophone is not tuned in to 1323 Easy Lstening?

I probably enjoyed the jjj more in the 80s and 90s because of the quality of presenters. I never got excited by the now infamous song that had the station closed down (being f the police). Good music is good music no matter what the era.

JJJ has always been left wing but I feel the presenters have gone from being clever and funny to a boring arm of politics. The fact they had to run the program "restoring the balance" says it all.

JJJ get back to basics and recruit presenters who want to be radio presenters. If they want a career in politics, join a political party. I just want to be entertained by good music and clever humour.

Correct. Also, pointing out that I made a bitchy post is a redundancy.

Re: presenters, my all time favourites would have been Wil Anderson and Adam Spencer, they were fantastic, and any morning `Are you smarter than Dools?' was on I was late to work because **** work when that is on.

Peaked with Mikey Robbins and Helen Razer for breakfast..Pete Costaldi and Lawrie Zion with Creatures Of The Spotlight...and a few others at the time....there is no going back:(

I've never been a fan of radio presenters as they talk too much, just stop talking about your life, shut up and play some music!

True that and its even worse on Triple J because they don't have ads so the presenters talk 3x as much... I'd almost rather listen to Erectile dysfunction ads then the overly political crap that the presenters sprout on JJJ these days.

Edited for personal satisfaction.

How much do the Melbourne taxpayers have to cough up to have that most boring tennis game going for the past couple of weeks?

Better than Bazz and Pilko? :D

No other bogans draped in Aussie flags would have been drinking and making complete moos of themselves would they?

It is amazing how many people celebrate "what is good about Australia" by making a moo of themselves.

I thought that is why we have Bali; so we can ship the mood elsewhere.

how good was jjj in the late eighties as jj and then the 90s with helen razor, mike robins, and paul mcdermott doing the morning show; roy and hg's this sporting life and drive with ian rogerson and debbie spillain

still enjoy the j's today but wish they would explore and push the boundaries a little more

There was actually a very notable and very public change of direction at that radio station not too long after it went national. While it was never "my" station of choice i'd listen to it from time to time. They sacked Mark Dodshon, who's Australian Music Show had been a mainstay of JJJ for years. Also out the door went the much respected Tracee Hutchison among other long standing hosts and programs. The station very much went through an entire re-boot that many old time listeners would say would say was for the worse, but i'm sure station management felt vindicated given the stations soaring popularity nationwide.

Folders rule the earth, scrunchers are scum!

Its good to see Triggy is using his 6 months off to ponder the important things in life.

If there's one thing lamer than tennis, it's tennis crowds.

"Oh, the ballboy caught the ball on the full. I shall cheer loudly!"

"Oh, Murray served the ball and it got stuck in the net! I shall laugh uproarously!"

"Oh dear god! Novak Djokovic just flicked a rogue moth to the back of the court with his raquet! My sides are literally splitting!!!"
