they don't seem to overdo British comedies either, they also seem to finish strong like Black Books, IT Crowd or The Inbertweeners.
Whereas most of the American shows I have enjoyed got really terrible well before they finished (Simpsons, South Park, Family Guy, Scrubs, Boston Legal, 2&1/2Men)

I don't think South Park belongs on that list. The quality of that has always ebbed and flowed, and they've done some outstanding stuff in recent years.

The Brits know how to end them on a high, without watering down the quality or over staying their welcome. US is more about money, theyll stretch it out for as long as possible so long as they keep making money from it. Most of their shows go for 2-3 seasons too long to the detriment of the shows quality. Only really freaks n geeks and BB that didnt, with the first being cancelled and the second being told to wrap it up by the studio

Only Fools and Horses, red dwarf, Mrs browns boy, Gavin and Stacey, last of the summer wine etc. etc. suggest they don't know when to end them.

Inbetweeners had some genuine laughs, I especially loved Jays dad.

I'd argue Red Dwarf went too long originally. The last two seasons in the first run weren't that good. Though season X was back to old form.

Didn't work for me but I quite liked David Mitchell and Robert Webb from that in The Mitchell and Webb Look. Uneven but I sort of like that, and both David and Robert are good individually although David seems the more prolific of the two.

Too long and then some. Sadly some of the latter stuff didn't totally suck and so its long goodbye perpetuated. The shark jumping was really noticeable when Red Dwarf was repopulated, but I wasn't watching regularly by then so don't know the mechanism for that.

I don't really agree with this.

The show was still decent, not sure why they have to end it just because it isn't as great as it once was. The movie they made was garbage, but the newest season was fine.

Honestly, I just don't understand why people throw the "TV Show X ran way too long" around. Yeah sure the quality of shows can drop after a few seasons, but would people really rather that shows ended as soon as they peaked?

I aint a massive fan of family guy...but just suggested it was one of those shows....


and british tv sucks balls....as soon as I hear a british accent I turn it off ...

From what I hear its actually better.

Though they are rather different from what I have seen of the US version.

You can't really call it a ripoff when Gervais and Merchant were right behind it, and it made them both extremely rich.

Seasons 2-5 were good shit.
