True story that someone doesn't like Shawshank Redemption?

True story that it's overrated.

The movie is not based on a True Story.

Oh come on, I like to think of Stephen King books as gospel. ;)

I don't dislike the movie. It's just a good ordinary movie, though. The 'classic' status is utterly baffling.

Clancy Brown is one of my favourite actors.

I can't believe I just read so many posts hating on each others' sense of humour, but it's good to see another Clancy Brown fan pot of gold at the end of that rainbow. Don't see too many people talk about what a genius he is.

"I know his name!"

One of my favourite movies in Highlander and he made it so memorable as the Kurgan, and he was immense/intense in Carnivale. His voice is so recognisable and it pops up everywhere in computer games and animation. He is very under rated IMO.

Bit like that Welsh comedian um....

What's his name?
Been plenty, from the legendary Tommy Cooper, Terry Jones and Harry Seacombe to Paul Whitehouse and Rob Brydon, just not so many daft racists.

Rhod Gilbert is very funny.

British comedy seems to be directed more into game or talk show type humour these days - Would I Lie to You, QI, Chatty Man etc (Graham Norton and Jonathon Ross have dined out on this for years). It's relatively easy, the effort is spread and doesn't require the intense workload of weekly sitcom scripts. WILTY did suffer from over-exposing the same comedians for a while but was refreshed by adding some new faces and non-comedy Brit celebs.

Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan on The Trip was very well done.

Swann was obviously going to retire in the coming months anyway, but he wanted to win the Ashes against what he thought was going to be an hapless Australian side. When Australia smashed him around the park, it was like "**** this shit, I'm taking my bat and ball and going home".

Weak. Stay with your fellow countrymen and try to salvage some respect, Swann. You say you like to be the center of attention...how about showing some fight?

That's a bit rough.

Swan was easily my favourite pom and one of the premier bowlers in the world for a fair while.

He always comes across as a nice guy with a great sense of humour. Handled his retirement press conference with absolute class too.

Frankie Boyle is funny and offensive .....
And just about the best at it too. His hosting of "Never Mind the Buzzcocks" S24 E12 was one of the great performances I have seen. Just watch the first 5 min and see his deservedly famous introduction of Michelle Williams from Destiny's Child.

I watching girls in undies pretending to play gridiron. Am I dreaming? ....
I saw the American one once but annoyingly lost focus and began actually watching the game.

You forgot the only genuinely funny Welshman in history.

Griff Rhys Jones.

Frankie Boyle is very funny. Very, very wrong but still very funny.

If he is racist it's only against the English so it doesn't really count as racism.

Such a good show. Subtle humour but very funny.

"Gentlemen to bed! For we leave at nine thirty-ish."

I think some of the too soon humour (some of which is funny) is often racist in nature, plenty of Boyles stuff crosses that line IMO. But I am often wrong :)

Btw the only acceptable racism is against the filthy Saxons ;)

Would I Lie To You is fantastic. David Mitchell and Lee Mack play off of each other so well. I never liked Lee Mack before I watched that show but he's very, very good on it.

Australia has been trying the same thing (Good News Week, Talkin' Bout Your Generation, The Unbelievable Truth, Spicks and Specks, that new Have You Been Paying Attention show), but it rarely works, just because most Australians comedians range from OK at best to terrible at worst.

Yeah, but he's from a different country to us. Boooo!

The Australian cricket team are for the most part a bunch of arrogant tossers. It bothers me that people support them just because they happened to be born on the same land-mass as we were.

And that's coming back, with new hosts. Going to be interesting.

And it irritates me because most of the Port supporters in here support them because they happened to be born and raised in the same rough geographical area as the Club ;).

Even the most ardent Aussie cricket fans have problems with individual players within the team, just as footy supporters do. You should have seen some of the vitriol on the cricket board towards Clarke, Warner et al in recent times. When Damien Martyn retired mid-series you would have seen similar reactions from people.

And besides, the Ashes rivalry far outweighs any footy rivalry!
