The good thing about facebook is you can make it whatever you want it to be. Its a really good tool for keeping in touch with family/friends and its also quick access to information such as the Port page and events and happenings. As for all the other stuff if you don't like it you can hide it or delete people who annoy you... Plus its not like people force you to be on it 24/7 you can use it as often or as little as you want. My Grandma just turned 80 and she loves it because it allows her to keep in touch with all her family who are spread all over the world.
