The Step Up trilogy is better than star wars
Never heard of it, which may be indicative.
Exactly. She's contributed to untold youngsters (and not so youngsters from this thread it appears ;) ) having no idea that irony doesn't mean bad luck. It's the debate - is she either thick as a plank, or very smart for making a song about irony that's ironic because there's nothing ironic in the song?.....
Beautifully paid out by an Irish comedian at the Montreal Comedy Festival who pointed out that two meteorologists getting married whose wedding was disrupted by bad weather was ironic. Coincedence (most of Morrisett's song) however was not ironic.
So with this thread I'm pretty sure I started the most popular thread in Bigfooty Port Board history. u is all jellymad
Attention seeking (sniff!).

Why do I not reliably get notified of posts in threads I have subscribed to with this new software behind BigFooty. I believe I may have a post somewhere in this thread. Yet I had to click on the PAFC Board homepage link to it as if I was a "The 'random thoughts that don't deserve their own thread' thread" virgin. It hurt briefly.

Out of curiosity, what did you think of Rises?
1. Dark Knight.
2. Rises.
3. Begins.

Tom Hardy killed it as Bane. Took him from Schumacher's laughing stock, to making him better than the character in the comic series.

Could have spent more time on fleshing out his back story, but that's what the Blu Ray/DVD is for.

Fun fact: A large majority of the characters in the films aren't American.

But rises was so stupid in so many ways

Sending every cop in the city into the sewer.

Bane being able to defraud Wayne enterprises out of billions exactly while the stock market was being held up.

The two women in the film being a terrorist and comic relief

The massive buildup about the prison from hell followed by nothing of the sort.

The fact that a child could escape when adults training constantly for the same thing couldn't.

The instatravel back to gotham and the flaming batsignal out of nowhere.

Every characters motivations are stupid.

The boring, time consuming pointless backstories (notice the joker had no backstory in TDK)

Massive letdown after the first two. Constant "why the hell are they doing that" moments.

I made sweet love to a kiwi chick in 1988 near Nowra NSW when that song was hot.

She hated it (the song) which made her more attractive than she really was.

I don't agree, much as I loved them when they came out. IMO you have to judge a film and/or series on what it was when it was released and then how it has borne out over time. Using the revised names I reckon 'Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope' and 'Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back' still hold up fairly well but 'Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi' was just cashing in. Just how lame were the Ewoks?.

I forgot the Godfather which I assume is probably far better only having seen the first. Toy story is another that I forgot. The guy who mentioned step up was probably trolling BTW. :p

Also I thought that Dark Knight Rises was the best of the three recent Batman movies FWIW. Yes it was stupid in many ways, but its not like the other two didn't have stupid things as well. The only thing that pissed me off was the "twist" which seemed far too unrealistic and poorly constructed for my taste. Then again I had recently read Foundation and Empire which did it perfectly. BTW if you haven't read the foundation series and you like sci-fi even a slight bit (I don't like sci-fi much personally) then you should go out and read them. ****ing brilliant.

Has anyone else dropped in on the Tippett thread on the Adelaide board recently?

They've lost the ******* plot over there.

I reckon its great. Its resorted to a 50+ page discussion on the merits of tomato sauce.

Watch Godfather and Godfather II and you will realise how much these two classics are referenced in popular culture. All the best with the Batman franchise but I doubt there's a single scene/line that lives outside the movies themselves.

.... Then again I had recently read Foundation and Empire ....
Hah! read them in the early 70s, plus Asimov also wrote the 'I Robot' series (both were trilogies - but books). Both masterpieces. I know 'I Robot' was made into a film some years ago but was just a cheap 'cash in'.
