Yes, that is cheating, but how does that make him one of the biggest? Even in cricket circles that is pretty far down the list.

Ian Chappell tells a story of one of his innings when he was in South Africa. He hit the ball to a fieldsman and asked if he caught it, the reply was yes, so off Chappelli went. Talking to the South African later on he again asked about that catch, the reply went along the lines that "You asked me if I caught it, you never asked if it bounced first"

IIRC Chappelli said he never again walked, always waited for the umpire to make a decision.

Golden Breed jumpers were huge when I was a teenager, then disappeared overnight to limp along these days as surf gear. A shame.

The old uniform, windcheaters & cords or Levis plus desert boots ... dem 'ol days ... :D

Saw Matty Primus down at the semaphore street fair on sunday.

Selling or buying?

You get so many bad calls in a game of cricket you soon resize to leave the umpiring to the umpires. Get away with what you can. You know the other team will do the same.

Okay

If you take the ball you immediately feel the direction of force, a bump-ball has a different direction of force.

I spent a lot of time in the slips to gully region plus up close & personal with the batsman. I'm proud to say that I waved off several near-things because I felt the ball had hit the turf first, but when it came to my bowling my aggression was off the scale.

I loved playing and then umpiring for a number of seasons.

Seriously, what is with their names.

Who calls their kid a Nantie or a Faf from the get-go?
There are some classic South African names like Jonty, Fanni and Hansie.

gully for me, twice where I haven't known. one catch and one half volley according to the players around me.

I'm happy to accept that sometimes you may not know for certain, so we can leave it at that.
The Steve Waugh clip I posted a few pages back was nothing like that though. He dropped a chest high ball, fell to the ground, the ball was actually rolling around on the grass between his shoulder and head, he reached back, picked the ball up and threw it into the air as if he'd taken a clean catch.

Chalk and cheese.

I always ask the question to the fielders around me, rather than acting like a tool straight off. I guess I'm just not awesome enough :(

And no, I won't be coming at you.
