As I recall, a threat of a move to Glenelg was standard during contract negotiations at Port. Worked the other way too.

Woitey basically made some money for him and Port when he left, his knees were stuffed when he was cleared.

I'm not sure where I read/heard it - might have been Rucci's book on Fos Williams - re Woite asking Bob McLean for a pay rise, and the big fella saying "come back when you win a Magarey Medal like Russell"...and when he (Woite) came back after his MM win, he said "come back after you win 2".

It is strongly rumoured the pay scale at Port was based on Russell's contract. I guess that was fair enough.

So I just learned that Brett Ebert is our third highest goalkicker in our AFL history. If he kicks 12 more goals before the end of his Port Adelaide career, he'll be second. That's depressing.
