I've watched around 30 episodes of Family Guy, given it way too many chances, but that show is good for one laugh per episode max. It's a horribly unfunny show. There is no real story, just situations for someone to talk about a random flashback.

American Dad takes that one laugh per episode moment and turns it into a decent show. It's about one hundred and forty times better.

I have the first 6 or 7 seasons of FG on DVD, which were very good for what they were with the right mix of story arc and the much-maligned flashback vignettes. Have only caught a few latter episodes on Fox since and they remind me of the decline of The Simpsons (which was in another stratosphere in its pomp given it was just about the greatest show ever).

The stories are nothing but cheap gimmicks, the animation looks soulless and sterile in CGI/HD and the characters have become lazy parodies of themselves.
