Am I the only one who thinks Toby Greene from GWS looks like a lesbian?

Fuuuuuuuck The Age requires that I get a subscription now. I'm actually torn about this.
I caved already.

Damn you Fairfax!

Far better than Luke Darcy.

I really hate that they don't have a second play-by-play caller in Dwayne Russel's games. The best set up is Commeti and Mcavaney because they can both call plays, and they can both give decent analysis particularly Dennis. All you need to add to that is someone who has to know what is going on and add one sentence in every 20.

Jokes ?

Clive Woodward used all the new facilities and sports science t stuff that were put in place for the Manchester 2002 Comm games to help England win the 2003 rugby world cup. English rugby have continued to use those facilities, sports scientists etc. The Lions are dominated by the English and the Scotts and Welsh unions copied what the English did. That base came from the lotteries monies. Tennis over the last 15 years has taken lotteries monies, whilst indirect, it had some impact on Murray.

Bottom line is, the British had a sea change in the way they funded sport, became more professional, that toughened up their attitude and it spread thru most sports who wanted to keep up. It took time, but it has spread out across the board.

No real difference to Oz. The 1980's the AIS spent monies on buildings and sports scholarhsips and tried to pick winners. The states started their own sports institutes/academies In the early 1990's they changed and decided that for a lot of individual sports they would let the athlete stay with their coaches in their home states and use the AIS as a centre of excellence. Then when Sydney won the Olympics hosting rights in late 1993, the federal government ploughed hundreds of millions of dollars into the Olympic campaign. That feed through to all sports as they wanted to keep up. Winning the Olympics meant governments started spending monies on sports infrastructure on sports that had nothing to do with the Olympics. Better facilities eg stadiums saw more $$$, more $$$ saw more spent on professionalising the sports.
Lions have the Welsh and ten players in the side on Saturday. Not even close, tomEnglish dominated. Rugby certainly became more professional and caught up with the Aussie Kiwi model.

Watching cylclings greatest fraud for the first time. Not only a cheat but a dickhead as well. Ringleader and all round tool.

Bruce can be a bit annoying but he knows player names and comes across as though he watches most games. Even though we rarely get primetime timeslots he still one of the best for calling Port games.

A for effort from bruce. That has never been the issue. The issue is he is a horrid commentator. He has a brilliant memory. He should be the guy handing the commentator notes, not speaking himself. states the obvious and pops out with random facts. Rarely calls the actual game. Not insightful at all.

He was great 30 years ago on THE BIG REPLAY in Adelaide, but has gone downhill in recent years, in particular the last 10 or so years.

Bruce was a bloody good footy caller in the 1990's and up until 2002 when Ch 7 lost the rights.

When they won them back in 2007 and he was teamed up with Dennis, they both started to do the channel 9 BS and hype and try and out perform each other. Unfortunately Bruce has lost it somewhat and spends most of the call asking questions rather than informing.

He still is a great athletics caller and obviously the IOC thought he was pretty good at swimming as the they employed him for the English language feed that the Olympic Broadcasting Services at London Olympics would supply to the small nations who either didn't send a broadcaster or only small teams which cover only a few sports.

I might be the first person ever who ejected the PAFC 2004 Grand Final DVD from a PS3 and then put in a Blu-ray of Amadeus.

EDIT: might be?!

Unfortunately you don't need to be even close to perfect to be the best current AFL commentator.

Its ridiculous how low the standard is at the moment.

Was looking at the Oympics board searching for something and came across my media appreciation thread where I praised Peter Doneghan's calling of athletics in London and others joined in the praise. 4 years earlier I started a thread titled Peter Donegan - a greater all rounder than Gary Sobers because he covered so many sports for ch 7 at Beijing and did a great job on all of them. In that thread from Beijing I said "To Aussie tv sports executives out there, it's time to make him a main commentator on your stations"

Donegan calls the VFL on the ABC. he did some calling for ch 7 in the late 1980's and 1990's. He should be on Fox Footy or 7. He went from the VFL one week end to calling Olympic athletics as the main man for 2 weeks and then back to the VFL last year. He is a wasted talent calling VFL.

I understand that none of you (I think) will understand this particular example, but you may understand the elation that I am currently feeling.

In the late 90's (I was born in 1990), there was a game that my brother and I played on our dads PC. In a family that wasn't allowed a console (I eventually saved and bought my own, as well as spending hours upon hours playing my best mates n64) this was a big thing. Anyway, we upgraded PC, moved onto other games, and this particular game was soon a distant memory. Recently, my brother and I decided we would like to replay this particular game for nostalgia, particularly because we never managed to pass the final level. But alas, we were never able to track down what this mysterious game was called, we only had vague memories of it. Until tonight, my brother found it. Ladies and gents, I present to you, G-Police.

Harry O looks like Tracy Chapman with a mustache. Right now he's singing to Buckley: "Give me one reason to stay here..."

And Tracy Chapman is rumored to be a lesbian. Believe it...or not.

I miss Clynton Gyrbus. He was amazing. Rex Hunts style worked with Clynton because they complimented each other now every caller tries to be a "Rex" it's getting ridiculous.

Now let me get this right - Nathan Buckley is allegedly a lesbian?
