Lehmann was the unluckiest. Was named as 12th man for a Test at the SCG in 1989 and somehow fell out of favour. The selectors at the time, led by John Benaud, seemed to be seduced by the yet to debut Mark Waugh and just about anyone else in a baggy blue cap. Lehmann was as good a player as any of his generation and should have played 70-plus Tests.

The academy moved to Qld in 2004. Had plenty of success from its post 2004 graduates.

Blame 20/20. batsmen don't have the concentration they once used to. Phil Hughes has a terrible technique to a moving ball. Smith isn't a number 5 or 6. Brad Hodge is still better than 4 of the 6 top order. Not sure if has retired but saw him play in the big bash game at Adelaide oval around christmas/new years

Lets face it most of the 1990's and 2000-2010 decade was a golden 15-20 years in oz sports, just like the 1950-60's period. The rest of the world has caught up and we got complacent. The 1980's struggle street area is upon us again.

Yeah by spending 5% of a nations GDP and 1 in every 1,000 people in a nation being directly involved in the project. What is your point? A government that throws its full treasury behind a cold war activity vs a bit of fun by a few locals trying to celebrate the tour going thru their town or the first time in a few years.
