Free dinner at Shiki > Port game on tv?

Mister Speekah - I ask that you refrain from making such decisions at this time, it is inappropriate. I ask the honourable gentleman to withdraw his proposition.

I was at tonight's game and bought the AFL Record. It included a player profile of Jackson Trengove. This was his answer to the following question. Name the three most admired people you would like to meet:

Anderson Silva, Michael Jordan and Justin Bieber.

I'm guessing he may have been misquoted.

After his game today, I wouldn't be surprised if he was serious.

Riewoldt beats everybody on the lead. Been doing it for over a decade. Shit I remember that prelim final, Chad, Bish and Shaun couldn't keep up with him. Lucky he was getting the ball 60-70m from goal back then and plenty of times it was 45-60m out from goal tonight.

It was always going to be tough for Jacko without some help. needed the Fist in the side coming over the top for a chop out.

This was true at least.

This is where I prefer Hombsch as one of the first picked.

Reads the play really well, very good foot disposal and a prodigious spoiler. Brian Lakesque in fact.

Hey guys this is me playing satisfaction and I am naked. I hope you like it. take note of the teal coloured walls :hearts:

Routine needs more polish and structure; the improvisation was too frequent and repeated.

Question on Triple M this morning from KG and Jarman was who would they trade from the crows to get Jeremy Cameron. Dangerfield? Nope. Walker? Nope. Crouch? Nope. Sloane? Nope.

Sam Shaw, Luke Thompson and Jarryd Lyons were suggested. Then a caller rang in and suggested Mckernan and Lewis Johnston.

Many laughs were had all the way to work.

I'm not even sure GWS would take Walker or Dangerfield.

Walker now has a knee injury history and we know the proportion of players that recover from those, and Dangerfield, while being very good, is a midfielder. You don't trade a gun KPF for a gun midfielder unless you have 7 or 8 gun KPFs and no good mids.

Geoffa ringing in with his genius trade suggestions it seems.

I just want to smack Graeme Swann in the chops...

Maybe Jackson feels the same way this monkey does:

Scott Watters was a thoroughly mediocre player during a thoroughly dominant period for West Coast, then he got traded for ridiculous overs to the Sydney Swans. He later became an inaugural Docker.

Why do I feel so pleased we have his measure is the point I'm making.

What the **** is this? "Simpsons quotes that nobody gets anymore?" Maybe if you were a vapid, mouth-breathing Facebook junkie who has the attention span of a drunk amoeba.

That episode had some absolute classics.

Ralph Wiggum: "I heard that your father went into an all-you-can eat restaurant and ate everything in the restaurant and they had to close the restaurant."

Lisa Simpson: "Look, just because my father has gained a few pounds, doesn't mean he's a food-obsessed maniac!"

Er, has anyone else noticed you can beat The Age website's "you've read too many articles for free this month" bs just by clearing cookies?

Winning at the internet hasn't been that easy since the late 90s.

3 big deaths over the last couple of nights

1. Comedian Mel Smith, from shows, Alas Smith and Jones and Not the Nine O'Clock News, died of a heart attack, aged 60.

2. Helen Thomas was the White House corresponded for over 50 years for the United Press International ie like Associated Press and Reuters. Was there from JFK to Obama. Was a feisty reporter and many times got the first question to the President at pressers. Died aged 92 and worked at the White House until 2010 aged 89. Had to retire after making some disparaging remark about Israel re the Palestinian situation. She was of Lebanese background.

3. Bert Trautmann goalkeeper for Manchester City in the 1950's and 60's. One of sports great stories but rarely told. Played amateur soccer in Germany but as an 18 year old (1941) signed up to join the Luffwaffe as a paratrooper. He won an Iron Cross and was captured by the Allies in 1944. Over 90% of his division was killed. He was sent to a couple of POW camps in England and played soccer in the camps. At the end of the war he refused to be repatriated to Germany and stayed in England. Was up north when freed and became a farmer and started playing with the local soccer side. End up being signed by Manchester city for 1950 season.

City made the 1955 and 1956 FA Cups. They lost 1955 and in 1956 when they were up by a couple of goals he went and made a diving intercept and coped a knee in the neck which later they found out broke a vertebra in 2 pieces and dislocated several others. In those days there was no substitution so he had to stay on and made a few more saves.

He was one of the first goal keepers to use an attacking throw rather just kick the ball as far as possible. He become the leading goalie in England. Probably should have played for Germany in the 1954 and 1958 World Cups but was never selected for national team duties due to the politics involved. Played 15 years for City. Coached all over the place as part of the German FA's development role in the third world countries. Later in life he was awarded many awards for improving Anglo German relationships as well as football awards.

Only person to own an Iron Cross medal and a FA Cup medal.

Many moons ago I saw a story about him. But I forgot all about him, until I heard a BBC radio story on him last night to acknowledge his passing.

Watching the Footy Flashbacks Ablett special has reminded me of the day when goal umpires turned in seemingly random directions to signal a goal. I assume they were signalling in the direction of the nearest field umpire? Can anyone confirm?

Yep you always looked to the field umpire for the all clear signal. The field umpire would shout out all clear, hold up one hand to the side of his face if he thought it was a point and both hands on both sides if he thought it was a goal.

Those were the days when umpires didn't draw attention to themselves, signals were clear and simple.................if only...
