Watched the 2012 version of Total Recall last night. It's like they decided to take out almost everything that made the 1990 version of Total Recall awesome. No Mars, no eye-ball popping suffocation, no mutants, no Kuato, no Richter, no JohnnyCab, no awesome X-Ray machine, no pulling a tracker out of your brain through your nose, no giant alien machine and no awesome 1-liners. Colin Farrel's friend at work looks like the love child of Forrest Whittaker and Dave Chappelle, Kate Beckinsale while hot shows no skin. Jessica Biel looks too much like Kate Beckinsale. The script is literally ripped in parts from the original movie and added in to the new movie without the same context so actually doesn't make sense. So disappointed.

I've seen it, and I agree. I would put forth that in attempt to be "cool", the writers lost sight of what made Total Recall cool in the first place. I mean, they put little homages in, like a fat lady who said "2 weeks" (which is funny considering this board)...but anything that was 'clever' was always a reference to the old movie, which meant you had to watch the original to 'get it'.

It was like it was a sequel combined with a remake. Lame. And sometimes you need a decent helping of cheesy one liners.

I watched it a few weeks ago and didn't even make the link to the original I just thought they used the same title. Kind of how every song ever written or recorded in the 80's was called "The Power Of Love".

Some of these 'reboots' are insane.

You could understand it if they were taking a great story that perhaps suffered from a low-budget, a lack of SFX technology to truly realise the writer's dream, archaic plot references or whatnot when it was originally filmed, but bloody hell.

Schwarzenegger. Sharon Stone in her prime. Michael Ironside in full Ironside-mode. GET CHOR ARZ DO MARZ! The three **** looked real. What's to improve?!
