15% of the food bill is minimum standard in US restaurants. And putting it on the bill is also pretty much universal.

Perhaps I have it wrong here then. It was 5 years ago now, and for some reason that stuck in my mind.15% of the food bill is minimum standard in US restaurants. And putting it on the bill is also pretty much universal.

They sell southwark stout in the members at LAAMI, it's delicious.I've been drinking a bit of Coopers Stout this winter. Great stuff and inspired one of the great tv ads of all time.
A bit pricey, but well worth it. Easily the best pale ale that's readily acquired (before someone weighs in with a 'Titwank Pale from the Skeetasheet Brewery of Mt Isa...').
If tipping is standard and set at a common %, how the **** is it a tip?

Tips are taxed - that's why people will get shitty if you don't leave one.
When I was in the States last - 2007 - I always made sure I tipped 20% or higher. Who wants to be known as a tight-arse?
That being said - my friend and I wanted to get into Privilege, which is a club up in Hollywood that you apparently have to know someone to get in to. Go to the concierge, he's all like "Oh, I don't like your chances. I know the owner and blah blah blah". Anyway, I know how these things work, so I slip him a 50 and tell him to do his best. I even said I'd be willing to do bottle service if it meant getting in. Well, his best wasn't good enough, cause he couldn't get us in. Not to be deterred, I said to my friend that we'll go past there and ask at the door. Ask for bottle service, walk straight in, with the door bitch giving us club's card with the number and saying "If you're ever in LA again, come back." Ended up at a seedy strip club after downing a bottle of rum in 2 hours (LA has a 2am curfew...) Was an interesting experience
Moral of the story? Tips, both monetary and otherwise, only get you so far in life. Sometimes, you need to take action yourself.
"You guys line up alphabetically by height and you guys pair up in groups of three, then line up in a circle" (Barry Hall at training)

Yeh, I had heard quite a few of those. Some football (soccer) ones amongst them as well. Most are from the 1960's and 1970'a USA sports stars and have been Australianised.

and when I do post, I post it twice!
Generally I only post on bigfooty after six+ beers.
So tomorrow marks my one year anniversary on Big Footy.
Not sure how I feel about this to be honest.
