They are a great band and I am a fan. I was lucky enough to get a ticket to the show at the Opera House and see the original line ups play the first three albums and greatest hits up until and including Boys Don't Cry.

None of the above excuses the fact that Close To Me is a terrible song.

I have never understood the love for The Cure song "Close to me".

I just heard it on the wireless.

Shit in 86 and shit now and yet one of the most loved Cure songs???

Robert Smith has taken more interesting shits than that song.

I have a friend who came to Australia as a refugee from Thailand on a Qantas flight via a Red Cross Camp where they had to wait for years until their refugee status claim was processed.

Most refugees whom migrated this way hate boat people as they are cue jumpers in their eyes.

As Ningo said not all refugees were boat people plenty lived in camps in HK, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia etc for many years, before they were granted refugee status and came to Oz.

But shit flows down stream. I have relatives who came to Oz after WWII and weren't Anglo's or Northern European - ie looked different, and were abused and told to speak English etc. Those people are in their 60's, 70's and 80's now and hang shit on Asian and African immigrants for being different and speaking in their own languages.

Funny story...

Late 80s, I was about 17yo, I was sitting at my girlfriends house one weekend and her neighbour came over. I'd met him before and he was a nice enough bloke. (He'd once helped me get a part time job while I was studying). Anyway... he walked in with a record under his arm and said, "Do you want this ****ing shit?", and handed me brand new copy of Head on the Door.

Apparently he'd bought it for his wife based solely on hearing Close to Me on the radio but she hated it so much that he had to get it out of the house.

I think I still have it somewhere.
