i just wanted to say somewhere that i hate "roby" and his stupid power rankings

I cant believe i got red carded a few years ago on the Melbourne board during a discussion on Jack Watts. I said that Watts wont be anything more than a Westhoff type footballer and i got the Westhoff is a spud line aswell as the Jack Watts is the future crap.

Lulz. Watts becoming a Westhoff type footballer would be a massive upgrade on his current ability. You should be red-carded for comparing them on our board. They should be throwing you a parade for comparing them on their board.

I second this red card and off to Melbourne!

Not to be a killjoy, but you do know that not all refugees are boat people, right?

I have a friend who came to Australia as a refugee from Thailand on a Qantas flight via a Red Cross Camp where they had to wait for years until their refugee status claim was processed.

Most refugees whom migrated this way hate boat people as they are cue jumpers in their eyes.

Accidentally entered this thread, but had to chime in.

My parents left Vietnam the same year (1980) to escape the North/VC, being Chinese business owners, from the South and Buddhist meant we fit into 3 areas of Government persecution (I'm sure Lockhart Road can share some details/insights on the time). They were boat people to an island in Indonesia before a UN program recognised them as refugees, processed properly and invited into Australia.

Being in a similar, almost identical situation to that John Nguyen guy, I can see where he's coming from. My parents left Vietnam in desperation and for a future (not, 'better', but 'A' future) and settled on the first place they landed. Australia is quite isolated in terms of distance required to travel by sea. So people arriving near our borders, unless from Indonesia aren't fleeing to their nearest point of safety.

That's where I see the differentiation.

Good find.

Anyone not at work should have a squiz. If you are at work use your phone.

I just watched it again.

That is, by a comfortable margin, her best song yet.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.

Look. Boobies.

I'm flattered, faquito , that you've tagged me as consultant on such a thorny issue.

I don't reckon that BF readers will be impressed if I go into 'details'... but I'm happy to provide personal insights of a random nature, in line with the theme of this thread.

To do the subject justice, allow me a little time to put something together, and I will post in greater depth asap.

I'll include a short bibliography of titles that I adjudge to be worth reading for anyone interested in learning something about the Vietnam conflict from an Australian, American and a Ho Chi Minh point of view. Should anyone read a paragraph about why the history of Vietnam dictated that the French and ultimately the Americans were doomed to failure in any attempt to control that country - it having been written that the locals had already been fighting a patriotic war for a thousand years - that would add up to one paragraph more than too many decision makers in Washington had boned up on in the late 1950s / early 1960s before they over-committed the country to inevitable fiasco.

BTW I'm pleased that you wrote what you did, as it tells me a lot about you in just a few words. Yes, indeed, as 'Chinese business owners, from the South and Buddhist' your family was highly qualified for persecution and expulsion by Hanoi after it took over the country in 1975. At least you weren't Catholic. But all you needed to list was 'Chinese.' That was qualification enough. And the Chinese in Vietnam is a subject within a subject that I have one or two insights on through personal experience. Positive insights, I hasten to add in adjournment.

Heath Shaw's posture in "The Grill" videos from the AFL website is captivating. I might make a thread on the main board about it.
