In a rich and privileged society where material wealth is considered the measuring stick of human worth and happiness money does matter to poor people. If it didn't we wouldn't have a gambling industry. The reckless pursuit of wealth is ingrained from birth.

In poorer societies where material possessions mean very little and human relationships mean more I completely agree with you.

I have failed to understand the middle class/working class types or people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds in many ways.

I mean if you are poor why would you drink, smoke, get covered in tatts and drive V8 cars? Aren't they all expensive wastes of your limited financial resources?

Maybe they are status symbols in that world? Like knowing a bloke that sells $15 J bags gives you a link to the criminal underworld?

Hang on - do West Coast actually own their license? Or does the WAFL? The SANFL owns Adelaide (and Ports) license and they fleece us constantly (Port not so much) to keep their competition alive. AFL is supposed to be taking control of the licenses for a while, then handing them to the Clubs. At least, that's the plan. Not sure what impact that will have on local or grass roots comps.
