I had a third year course at Flinders where an oriental gent in my tute could not speak a word of English. The tutor would also spend an inordinate amount of time trying to include him by asking embarrassingly basic questions about the material that were more in keeping with a SCOSA-themed kindergarten. He'd always respond with this wide-eyed horror that would morph into this enthusiastic smiling nod accompanied by zero words.

Now not all international students are that horribly out of their depth, obviously, but it was hard not to feel like all Australian university parchment was roughly as valuable as my Year 4 biro licence after that.

FWIW my experience in the Humanities was a bit like this. Studying science, that's a whole different matter... those fellas are killing us.

I don't mind too much though, the girls are nice.

I'm studying the king (next to health courses) of multicultural subjects. Information technology. Atleast i'm not the poor anti-social fellow that no one wants in their group who inevitably ends up with the non-english speaking discard group.

How does that group pass anyway, I always seem to see the people from that group in the next stages. Like tribey said, piece of paper is worthless besides announcing loudly "I can google."

I friggan love techno-viking. My mate currently living in Sweden, all I ever do is post things about Vikings and various incarnations of techno-viking. He just doesn't appreciate it like I do.

OK marks without attending class? You would most certainly hate me :)

Also, I always give 100% in peer reviews. Helping someone out at zero cost to me seems to be a pretty obvious choice.

I always did the same. Until my last assignment when I got dealt an actually crazy guy, he was operating on a whole 'nother planet, and unfortunately as it turned out not in a smart way.

He was also a potential kiddy fiddler. "I don't have Facebook so my digital footprint is untraceable".

Ahh yes, the sociopathic fedora wearing group member. Uni seems to be their natural habitat.

I did a course where the international student fee was 25 k/yr

I will always remember one conversation with a particular Malaysian student who complained to me then about his "measly" 75 k annual allowance from his parents

Me being of the housing trust/youth allowance stock - masked my shock by remarking "yea that's tough man"

Born in Wales to Welsh parents makes him pretty damn Welsh. He grew up in Saxonville granted.

Huh, I've been a big fan for years and never even knew that.

I met him once at the Festival many years ago. Seemed a very English mother****er to me.

And probably about as close to a real life Hannibal Lecter as anyone who ever lived.

I'm not really sure how I feel about this. The way they are talking about the deceased and carrying on about refusing to take the body doesn't really sit well with me regardless of who he was. Even the worst of criminals in life have been given proper burials in death. I guess locking someone up and then disposing of them like they never existed just seems like they are just repeating what the nazis did except its seen as justice rather than a crime, just like no one learned anything from the whole event.

Shame the crowd didn't hang around to see the game winning pass.

New England: The tweets started after the Patriots turned the ball over on downs with 2:46 left in the game, and the home team was down by only one point. The crowd was starting to empty out, even though the Patriots were likely to get the ball back with a chance to win.
The Patriots did get the ball back, down four points with 2:24 left. Tom Brady threw an interception.

We know how this one ended. I don't want to hear about the Red Sox game; there is no excuse for spending huge money willingly to miss a classic sports moment in order to get a jump on traffic.
(And while I'm on the subject of Red Sox fans, "Sweet Caroline" is an embarrassment to the entire region. This is true no matter the score, but especially when you are trailing 5-1. I can say this as a Red Sox fan.)

Hannibal Lecter...also Welsh, so maybe it's that :)

I'm currently in a group for a biology class. 1x MILF ****, 2x bronies that wear MLP shirts under their suit jackets with track pants, sneakers and they have very untidy neckbeards. I asked them where their fedoras were and, I kid you not, one of them said "Fedoras are for autistic kids." and the other one nodded in agreement.
