I like to read a chapter or two before bed, it's better than watching another episode of some mindless TV show.

I'm currently reading The Last King of Scotland by Giles Foden. To be honest it's pretty poorly written for a multiple award winning book and is taking me quite awhile to get through. The underlying stories great though so I'm looking forward to watching the movie when I'm finished, hopefully it's slightly better made.

I said to my niece about 10 years ago when she was about 12/13 and the 4th or 5th book was released that I would read all the Harry Potter books. Have never got around to it. I figured as a kid I read the classics and they were great, these books will gone down as classics. I wanted to see if they grabbed me as a adult, like the great novels I read when I was teenager, grabbed me. It's why I have refused to watch the films. I don't want they to prejudice my imagination. just have to get off my arse one day and start reading them.

Nah, they're shit.

I did this and ended up reading them all. Quite entertaining. Although i have always been a sucker for the fantasy genre.

It is great when anyone is old enough to legally vote and drink.

If you knew as many people my age as I do, you really wouldn't want them to vote. Their political knowledge extends to "Abbott is a homophobe president" or "Kevin Rudd looks like the milky bar kid"

Not sure it gets better than that

How old were you when you read your first one of the series.
22 for research reasons. Of all the fantasy and sci fi out there, you are doing yourself a disservice reading the generic clap trap that is harry potter. Read Foundation, Dune, GOT, Rama, WOT, plenty of others instead. Reading harry potter is like reading the cat in the hat instead of Plato.

I think I just worked out why I don't read books, in year 12 we all had to read 'The Odyssey', I still have no idea what the hell that was about but it must have scarred me.

You are missing out. There is no greater world than a good novel.

You are right, but I do read articles and magazines and of course all of REH's posts - that's enough to make me eligible for Mensa.

I can't remember the last book that I read, do people read books anymore?

I never read a book in my life (well not a long one anyway) and then we had kids, read them books until they go to sleep - some nights it turns into 20 books - between me and the kids its a fight to see who nods off to sleep first.

We had Wuthering Heights. Possibly the most boring book ever written. The film was worse.

EDIT: Article is a tad biased towards English sides but you would expect that being from the BBC. Nothing against the BBC as if it had been written by a French outlet it would have been a bit biased towards them etc.

EDIT: By that I mean there were years when European sides had a limit on imports whereas English sides operated under more relaxed rules regarding British and Commonwealth countries. The 1984 Liverpool side is a good example. I recall one time when England didn't have a game but Liverpool had to reschedule it's match because it didn't have enough players due to other countries national commitments. Yeah I loosely followed Liverpool back then. :)
