Funny because everyone should have the same rules.
Just because Collingwood were in the AFL before us doesn't mean that they should have more lenient rules.
The only rule that changed was along the lines of 4 National teams => 4 separate countries of origin when it came to counting foreign players and all European countries that wanted to play in the European Cup etc had to follow the same rules.

The rules are the same as much as history can allow. The UK has a unique structure when it comes to sport as you know, yet they have complied with and set up leagues just to assuage that idea. If the home countries didn't exist in the first place, most 'international' sport wouldn't have existed.

if only they'd told the slaves on their way to the caribbean that one day their descendants would learn to play cricket. i'm sure they wouldn't have minded in that case.

and there's no need to credit any of the smaller 'home countries' - they're just captives of england too. if the english had kept hold of ireland, they would have rid the world of the scourge of gaelic football and hurling too.
