The rules are the same as much as history can allow. The UK has a unique structure when it comes to sport as you know, yet they have complied with and set up leagues just to assuage that idea. If the home countries didn't exist in the first place, most 'international' sport wouldn't have existed.

Yeah I understand the "home countries" stuff, no issue there. The part I disagree with is having different rules for different "shall we say teams" in different championships depending on what suits them best.
Once upon a time, not that long ago actually, Victorian clubs had a 50 game father son rule (think Jonathan Brown here) yet we had a grand father rule that operated under a very different set of rules just because we joined "later". A 50 games for the "Magpies" would have been the right thing to do IMO. The point I am trying to make is that once a competition is set up there can only be one set of rules.
Back then only one team per country qualified, plus the previous year's winner. As both Celtic and Liverpool could qualify for the European cup etc then they had to be treated as two separate entities and not one for one competition and two for another depending on what suited their circumstances best. Had the two leagues joined, as both Celtic and Rangers "sort of" tried to do at various stages, then it would have been a totally different story.

So Doctor Feel did something like this recently so I thought why not...

Option 1: stay in current job, been with business for five years and current role about two years, and definitely the best full time job I've had in terms of work/life balance and general ability to get through the day without murdering people. It's also nice to have been with a company long term (long service leave is an appealing concept, for example).

Option 2: take new job with a different business, on about the same salary (but with less opportunity for shift penalties so potentially less take-home pay) and a 2.5 hour shorter working week (really appealing for some reason) with more opportunity for creativity in the job role, but probably a fair bit more accountability for any creative failures. Also, it'd be a generally nicer environment, I think.

Does option two have much room to progress if that's what you're looking for? If so, being held more responsible for your actions will give you a good way to show your skills to the company and move up through the ranks if suitable.

Well, it's a smaller organisation so in pure numeric terms higher roles are going to be less commonly available. And I know I've been within a bee's dick of higher appointments at the current place because I have a good rep. So moving would mean being back near the bottom of a ladder. But probably a more attractive ladder.

Sounds like you would enjoy either option. Spoilt for choice there, I would go for the option that has the best chance of career progression, if that is your thing.
