This story will not end well. $194m has disappeared from a punters club. Members include 'senior people from the AFL'.

It is understood some of the members of the club had more than $1 million invested in the scheme, which claimed to provide returns of more than 25 per cent a year.
There could be several hundred members of the club - including senior people from the AFL, the media, the building industry and retail worlds.

easy come easy go

f em

A fool and there money are soon parted when tempted by investments like this

Another example of investors losing big time and because it's a 'white-collar" crime, the perpetrators have every chance of getting away with it. Compare that with the ordinary Joe Blow who goes into a service station and runs off with smokes and the till money, no way does society allow that crime, he's bought down with a ton of bricks! White collar crime needs to be put into perspective and they need to go to goal with the key thrown out and all their assets from the proceeds of crime confiscated and distributed to the victims.
Will this ever happen? No way because the big end of town doesn't want it for their own.

No but poor people should be in jail.

It's just how the world works.

Show me a regular punter who gets 25% ROI a year and I'll show you a liar or a race fixer.

I'm in a puntclub and we don't fix any races that I am aware of but our ROI is 61% after 3 years?

Could that be wrong?

If you can convince the ATO that it's a business not a hobby or stupidity
That was the point regarding being taxed on winnings. :p

You are not necessarily taxed on winnings, it's whether you are running a business or not.
Yeah, that's what I was trying to get at. :thumbsu:

Yeah, very simple. Hobby if you're making money, business if you're losing money.
I like this post. :p :thumbsu:

Now if only making money from gambling was easy we would all be unemployed with a hobby. :p

$194m goes missing from an account under his control. Hasn't spoken to the bank yet. Sounds legit.
