I am watching the Collingwood final. Just realised one of my nephews looks like Heath shaw. The kid is 6 years old. How do I stop myself from punching him in the head when I see him Christmas Day.

Don't stop yourself. Just do what ever feels right.

I don't think it is. I think hes one of the most natural shot makers Australia has produced. Brilliant to watch. Arguably the most talented batsman in our era of success. But he lacked concentration and couldn't hit big scores. 2nd lowest highest score of Australias top 30 run scorers, lowest average in Australias top 20 run scorers. 3rd most Ducks in Australias top 50 run scorers behind his Bro who played in 60 more innings and Shane Warne who only became a competent batsman halfway through his career. The lowest average of any regular batsman in our era of success. Guys like Ian Healy, Brad Haddin, Jason Gillespie hit higher scores than him.

Doesn't mean he wasn't a good player. He clearly was. But I don't think he was a great player and I think his standing in the game doesn't match his record.

Then there was the audio debacle at Soundwave 2011...

I saw them with Ozzy/Zakk in Melbourne a few years ago and they were awesome. Very excited they're coming back.

I definitely wouldn't call him a "great" player either. I dont think he's as heralded you're saying though.

I recently purchased an old turntable, amp and 4ft high Akai speakers for the studio to play some old records I had lying around. All well and good but then someone put me onto Discogs.

My children will now be going without this xmas.

Waugh's shot against Vettori is the one shot that I for some reason always remember. Just how goddamn smooth and natural it was and it just kept going. Didn't even look like he hit it that hard, just a shot with the ultimate timing.

I'm not really into cricket, but from the snippets of info I get from the news I would've thought Mitchell Johnson would be ahead of Gillespie?

Gillespie was far superior... 259 wickets @ 26 suggests he was an extreme talent. Would've taken 400+ if not for injuries.

I have him ahead of Johnson all day every day.

Johnson has been inconsistent - his best is fantastic, his worst is lower level Grade cricket.

The episode with his mum and girlfriend a few years ago hurt his ranking too, although he's doing a good job at redemption at the moment, admittedly.

I think Gillespie was a little over-rated,although at his peak, which was mid/late 90's he was fantastic.

I tend to think he struggled in the last year or 2 of his his career.

I would probably have Boon in before Martyn.

Boon was more than 20 years ago, surely. I'd have Gillespie ahead of Lee. Thought Lee was far more erratic in his bowling and couldn't carry the load when he became the number 1 bowler. Thought Gillespie only had one bad series which was the Ashes series. Thought Ponting discarded him very quickly, which was unfortunate. McGrath and Gillespie were a great opening duo though. Complimented each other very well.
