Boon was more than 20 years ago, surely. I'd have Gillespie ahead of Lee. Thought Lee was far more erratic in his bowling and couldn't carry the load when he became the number 1 bowler. Thought Gillespie only had one bad series which was the Ashes series. Thought Ponting discarded him very quickly, which was unfortunate. McGrath and Gillespie were a great opening duo though. Complimented each other very well.
Yeah, you are right there, just checked and his best cricked was before '93.

I recalled he made his debut in 84/85, and thought he may have still been decent into mid 90's, but was wrong.

I think I may have just been too keen to get Martyn out of the side.

I enjoy how your 'best team of the last 20 years' is just the circa 2000 team plus Michael Clarke.

I'm not really into cricket, but from the snippets of info I get from the news I would've thought Mitchell Johnson would be ahead of Gillespie?

Oh hell no.

The team won 16 tests in a row twice between 1999 and 2008

The current side didn't win in 10 tests prior to this series.

Johnson at his best is amazing, but he's so inconsistent and he's got a long way to go before he overtakes Lee or Gillespie. A long way.

Of the current bowlers, Siddle is probably the closest, and Harris would probably be in there if he could stay on the park. The one's I listed are way ahead though

If I was choosing Brisbane's best side of the last 10-12 years, I'd get RSI from having to use 22 *

A 1993 starting point pretty much rules out Dean Jones too unfortunately. ;)
Yes raman but dean jones was my favourite player of all time so he gets in no matter what (as he would struggle to make aussies top 15 maybe even 20 )

But I appreciate you constantly wiping my arse when I s***...

On a side note Curtley Ambrose is my favourite non aussie player.....probably the best bowler I have seen

Dizzy was a great bowler. Made the ball do a lot of work....almost too much work. Regularly just missed the edge of the bat.

.......

Whilst those sides had some of the greatest Australian players ever eg Warne, Gilchrist and Hayden probably is Australia's best ever opener you also have to look at the opposition. We played some rabble.

I would have taken 5 or 6 test match wins in 10 consecutive tests against the Windies of the mid 80's over 16 straight wins in the 2000's.

Someone should make a movie about the West Indies cricket team of the 70s/80s because Idris Elba was born to play Viv Richards.

At number 6 in my first XI. <3

Hayden
Langer
Ponting
Clarke
S Waugh
Martyn
Gilchrist
Warne
Lee
Gillespie
McGrath

Martyn wildly overrated.

Had he not had the luxury of batting down the order in arguably the greatest team of all time and had a modicum of psychological pressure and actual responsibility on his hands he'd be the Australian Graeme Hick.

If only the likes of Martin Love had 20% of his chances.

Gillespie was far superior... 259 wickets @ 26 suggests he was an extreme talent. Would've taken 400+ if not for injuries.

I have him ahead of Johnson all day every day.

In his prime had express pace but with control too, unlike Lee. Very reliable bat as well.

Who would play the role of Dean Jones when he told Curtley Ambrose to take his sweat bands off?

Or Merv Hughes when he got Greenidge LBW in Perth in 88/89 to get the hat-trick :D

Not a movie but I watched a great doco at the 2011 Adelaide Film Festival - Fire In Babylon

Official trailer

10 minutes of the doco

I've been on Discogs for a few years.

Best music site for ever and ever.

Explain Discogs to me. Is it simply a place for finding and purchasing old vinyl?

For the record I have never thrown out or sold any of my original vinyl but have occasionally traded in the past. I do have some highly collectible gems but I could simply never part with them. I reckon if I ended up out on the streets is still buy a trailer to attach to my bike and and cart my records with me.

Haydn
Border
Ponting
SWaugh
Clarke
Hussey
Gillie
Johnson
Warne
Gillespie
McGrath

Chucked in Border as he played within the 20 year limit.

Really struggled with the 3 pace bowler as Hughes, McDermott, Lee, Johnson, S Clark and Siddle could have been selected. but it was the left hander who can bat got the nod.
