I was looking at a few political themed Facebook pages out of curiosity - I came across former Glenelg player David Holst's profile. He has a profile in SA politics as he's involved with disability rights.

Anyway, I noticed on his FB profile, that he "liked" the PAFC page. I previously noticed something similar on Grantley Fielke's profile on FB (his profile came up on my screen once as we have a mutual FB friend, so I checked it out).

Im also fairly sure that Robin McKinnon is a Port supporter (incidentally I believe his lad may qualify as father/son in a few years time, he plays in GSFL) as well.

So it's heartening, and even a little unbelievable that so many blokes who played against our SANFL side in past years, now follow us in the AFL.

The theme seems to be that they want to follow a "real club" (this is what a Norwood-supporting taxi driver who follows the Power, also once told me).

Re non Port SANFL players from yesteryear - Would be interesting to know the split between The Crows and Port, in terms of support, especially those who had never played for an AFL/VFL club, (although for Fielke that didn't even matter).

Obviously some would follow non-SA based clubs, but I do wonder how much support we have from this group of ex-players.

This topic might have mileage as a stand-alone thread. But of course we also face the blowback of Port SANFL players from yesteryear who support the evil empire.

Yeah it could. I'll leave it to mods to split it if necessary, to Black Diamond Corner, or main board.

Re ex Port players from SANFL days supporting the enemy after playing for the Crows, I think Tregenza is in that category, and Troy Bond. Presumably Greg Anderson too.

On the flip side, was good that Bruce Abernethy stayed a Port man despite his year with the Crows in '91.

Don't overlook Andrew McLeod.

Had a chat to Abber at Enzos (the same night as the Crows employee.... Dont call me a liar)... The hate towards Adelaide is strong in this one.

We had a floppy-ear Doberman when I was younger, he was roughly 3 years older than me. I can't say that I have crystal-clear memories of him (as he was put down when I was only 8, due to a spinal problem), but I do remember him as being a very jolly, excitable and loyal dog. When the time came to take him to the vet, I thought putting him down was the cruellest thing in the world, in hindsight though, he wasn't able to walk much and he was getting a bit old.

A few years ago my grandfather had a heart attack so we took care of his dogs while he was in hospital for a couple of months, and then eventually it was decided that we'd have them permanently. The Tibetan Spaniel has since cost us a fair amount of money, undergoing two ACL repairs, however I'd say it's worth it as she's a great little companion. Skoda, our big Chow Chow (looks like a messier version of this, http://www.caesmania.com/Uploads/caesmania.com/ImagensGrandes/chow-chow-7.jpg) is probably nearing the end as he has a difficult time walking more than about 80 metres.

Is Aber's hatred toward the Crows based on how they treated him, or just the fact they aren't Port Adelaide?

Yeah fair enough, although I wouldn't put him in quite the same category as PA men from our halcyon years who played a significant amount of footy before the Crows existed.
It's those crossover people like Tregenza, Anderson, Abernathy, Hodges (who else?) who are interesting. Then there's the exquisite pain of Aber in that much as he might have wanted to vent against the Cows he knew it could affect his media job.

Scotty Hodges has always been a Collingwood supporter. The reunification might help get him back.

Then there's blokes like Delaney (Fitzroy) and R Smith (St Kilda) who played a year or 2 at another club, I can only assume both now barrack for the PAFC. I haven't seen either at games (not that that means anything), but I have seen Richard Foster.

Then there's David Hynes who played for the Eagles, then I think the Dockers for a bit. I think he still lives in Perth, would be anyone's guess who he supports now.

Then there's Greg Phillips who was wearing a Hawks guernsey before this years grand final, and who apparently encouraged him to play in Victoria. I think he was dismissed as an assistant/Reserves coach at Port (SANFL) a few years ago. Would be a little sad if he didn't consider himself a Port man anymore.

I saw Fozzie down the club after the Carlton game last year.

Paul Rizonico of course works for the club.

Rog played a quarter for Fitzroy and Rohan 3 games for St Kilda (maybe he was paid who knows?). I think they are safely in the Port fold.

Little known fact, one of the reasons humans like dogs is because dogs have eyebrows and so have anthropomorphic facial expressions.

We've (mostly unconsciously) driven their evolution by artificial selection over 10s of thousands of years, and human-like facial expressions were one of the preferred traits that we liked. Domesticated dogs have a range of facial expressions completely absent in wolves.

Greg Phillips works behind the bar at the Port Club and is usually wearing his own Port polo rather then the official ISC media one. Would be very surprised if he supported anyone else.

Some Theorists suggest humans may not have evolved or proliferated so efficiently, and overtaken Neanerthals, without dogs.
I personally do not like dogs after some bad experiences as a child.

Slapdowns of 2013

One just for Piers Morgan. Chelsea would have been cheering on Brett Lee.

"Oh, you're so annoying. You're so obnoxious. You wonder why everybody hates you! I specifically covered up so you couldn't look at me and undress me with your molester eyes." US comedian Chelsea Handler gives Piers Morgan an appraisal.

People follow the Crows by default.

People choose to support Port.
