I clicked 'like' on the news from Noobz0r because I was relieved to hear that he and his house are okay.

It is of course absolutely terrible for his neighbours.

Living in Hong Kong I've forgotten what a terror fires are at home. Wake up, Road!

I'm back!

We were very, very lucky. Blessed in fact. Here's what happened:

The filled in area is the fire area, about 386 hectares as it stands. It started at the red 'x', apparently when a privately owned power pole collapsed into a pile of leaves ( ). In the space of an hour it was at the first red arrow, Noobz' house is the red dot just above the red arrow. Just as it jumped the major rd 50m East of our house the wind changed and sent it North-East, and spot fires started on our street.

If the wind changed 30 minutes earlier we were cooked, as it was a house 5 down from ours was burned down, with 3 on my st in total gone. So far we're up to 48 houses destroyed, in an area of a few hundred houses. I was standing on the roof of my house as it headed east at first, we all thought it would miss us. It's amazing how quickly it can change - and it's quite surreal seeing your st on fire as you evacuate.

We can't get back in until Wednesday, but I have some mates who know a back way in through park reserve so I'll go in tomorrow for a look.

Very, very lucky, devastating for the community.
Having been caught in the middle of a bushfire (1987) and being evacuated, I understand the feeling of relief but also sorrow because of the losses that others have sustained around you. I am glad you didn't sustain any losses personally but pass on my sympathy to the families that have been affected.
Has there been a relief fund set up, it maybe worthwhile sharing it with BF so those that want to donate know where to do it. Cheers.

Good news mate. The buddy draft has been full-blown chaos in your absence.

You're right, it's been terrible. For example, just after I read your post, I noticed that your Cameron O'Shea pick had somehow been replaced by Ben Jacobs!

..........

Good to hear you survived. From that map you posted you indeed were lucky.

A couple on 7 news had a car crash through their front window. 7 news reported it as being the last thing they expected. I don't know about them but some of the less likely things I'd expect are Elvis, Marilyn, Harold Holt and Jimmy Hoffa knocking on my front door saying the joke's gone on too long, or an alien spacecraft landing in my backyard, maybe a volcano erupting rivers of molten lava gold in my kitchen.

A car through the loungeroom, especially when you live opposite a pub, is a little ordinary.

This happened to my cousin just before Christmas. Car came rolling down the driveway from across the road and flying through their front window. 18th Century Grand Piano stopping the car metres from them.

Their dog was asleep in front of that window 20 seconds prior and got up and moved...

Dogs are spooky.

Cal McGregor the NSW Attorney General and Police Minister in Rake, is one of TV's great characters. No conflict of interest in those 2 portfolios. Very NSW politics.

Tonights show - one of the stories is about a bloke who gets his dick cut off and his neighbour a boring IT expert is accused. Cleaver Greene is defending the neighbour. The old judge doesn't want to bring the court's standards down and have it refered to be as a dick, penis etc. He implores that the latin term be used - membrum virile. So the lawyers use the term but the witness all say what - you mean his penis.

Edit Now the IT expert gets his membrum virile cut off.

Except when the real stuff starts.

Even today he tried amazingly hard to lose to Phil Rivers ffs. He's just lucky his little derpmerchant brother, David Tyree and Mario Manningham pulled a couple of plays out of their arses, otherwise it'd be 5-1 Tommy.

2005 was a little while ago now m80 let's face it. It's a stretch to play the "getting it done when it counts" card.

Living dangerously ain't so bad...it's the dying dangerously that always worries me

Like jumping off a tall building ... it's not the fall that kills you it's the sudden stop.

I don't get why people are getting so excited over not knowing the details about boats entering the country.

I tried Eddie Dingle, I've already used my one name change on this site, though.

You can change again but I think you have to make a $20 donation to charity or some shit.

tribey might know?

I think the great man has been Diatribe, DT and now tribey.
