saw them live at the gov last year. distance is one of my favourite melodeath songs and it sounded amazing live. :)

gotta say seeing moonsorrow at the gov was a surreal experience. couldn't believe they came to Australia let alone adelaide!
I can imagine a folk band like that would go off live. I'd love to see Agalloch live.

Big difference between seeing soilwork and moonsorrow that's for sure.

Soilwork was great but you could tell they (and the crowd) were just going through the motions. Bit of a 'been there, done that' vibe to that gig. Whereas moonsorrow had a great atmosphere because you could tell everyone there knew they were most likely experiencing something for the first and last time since the chances of moonsorrow ever being back would have to be fairly remote. Makes you appreciate it more.

Special birthday coming up for the bride so I was wondering if anyone knew the best way for one to approach their significant other with the suggestion of a pearl necklace as a gift?

Maybe I'll go with the earrings?

Yeah I guess it comes with the style of music; Moonsorrow being a bit more unique and dramatic (although Folk is becoming pretty overdone) as opposed to the staple power/melodeath that is Soilwork.

great lyrics:thumbsu:

She's really upset with me again,
I didn't give her what she likes.
I don't know what to tell her,
Don't know what to say.
Everything got funky last night.

She was really bombed,
And I was really blown away,
Until I asked her what she wanted,
And this is what she had to say:
A pearl necklace.
She wanna pearl necklace.
She wanna pearl necklace.

She gets a charge out of bein' so weird,
Digs gettin' downright strange.
But I can keep a handle on anything,
Just this side of deranged.

She was gettin' bombed,
And I was gettin' blown away,
And she held it in her hand
And this is what she had to say:
A pearl necklace.
She wanna pearl necklace.
She wanna pearl necklace.

She is so tough, as pure as the driven slush.
And that's not true what she's talkin' about,
It really don't cost that much.

She was gettin' bombed,
And I was gettin' blown away,
And she took it in her hand,
And this is what she had to say:
A pearl necklace.
She wanna pearl necklace.
She wanna pearl necklace.

Agree with folk being overdone. Felt that way for a few years which has seen me lose touch with anything current. Melodeath got pretty saturated too. Come to think about it most genres have suffered from that at some point in time (black metal I'm looking at you).

For nostalgias sake i'd love to see Dark Tranquillity live. Listening to their Damage Done album at work right now (gets quiet as a network admin when no ones around!).

Have to disagree... #3 is a very specialised position.

# 3 is a lot like being an opener. You have to have a very good technique against the moving ball. Batting 1,2 or 3 is the toughest. It why the best openers usually have a 5 run average less than the best 4,5 and 6.

But there is a lineage thru Australian batting of if not the best, then very good players batting there.

Clem Hill --> Charlie McCartney --> Bradman ---> Harvey ---> Chappell ---> Boon --> Ponting

Nothing wrong with the guys who bat at 4 but their technique isn't as good to last at 3.

Viv Richards was at his best when he batted 3. When he started going down hill he dropped down to 4.

Viv Richards played until he was 39. He played 121 tests the last 50 as captain which have a lot of added pressure and can affect your batting. He got to 4,000 runs at an average of 60 in 46 tests. He scored the next 4,500 in 75 tests at an average of just over 40 to end his career with an average of 50.23. He scored his 20th test 100 in his 82nd test aged 34. In his next 39 tests he only scored 3 more 100's. To me that is a natural decline of a great player and moved from 3 to 4 and 5. Look at what he made in each batting slot at bottom of below link.

I got a lot of milage out of The Gallery years ago. Fantastic album, one of my gateway DM albums along with The Jester Race and Slaughter of the Soul. Still has to be my favourite subgenre, despite the waves of generic samey stuff that has been pushed out. Material from bands like Be'lakor and Insomnium never get old.

Insomnium are fantastic.

Recently got into a band called Omnium Gatherum. Their musicianship on the album New World Shadows is top notch.

Yeah, NWS is quite an album. I was super hyped for their latest album but it was a disappointment, didn't have the atmosphere of NWS. Didn't help that I read a bunch of reviews praising it like it was the second coming. I think one of their guitarists is in Insomnium now.

Haha, aye. I remember the bad old days of posting on metal-archives forum and the amount of circle jerks over albums/artists made you cringe. Prefer stumbling over artists these days without the weight of other people's expectations - I mean, heaven forbid you don't like the album/artist as much as Mr Kvlt over there.

Of course the OG reviews wouldn't have been on metal-archives, melodeath might aswell be miley cyrus to them. "pop metal". Elitist twats.

Haha I guess nothing has changed in 12 years! Never met a bigger group of "oh yeah?! well my favourite kvlt band is so underground even they don't know they exist!"

Fk me, I did not know you were supposed to ask first !

Tsch, you modern new age blokes and your new fangled ways ...

I'm getting slightly annoyed at seeing the Superbowl being advertised as being held in NY/New Jersey. It's like saying the 2000 Olympics were held in Canberra/Sydney.

Odd place. I went there once, read one review which described Fear Factorys Demanufacture as 'rap metal' and havent been back since.

I was stumbled on a profile where the guy did some 50 reviews all with a score of 0% or 1%. Why bother?

I stumbled upon user reviews of a senses fail album on there once and ... the majority were positive. Thought I'd stumbled into the twilight zone. I'm sure the true lords and saviours of all that is metal have since rectified that while masturbating furiously to a blaze in the northern sky.

I would just like to make a point of the fact the this is the first time in any way shape or form I have ever been referred to as "modern new age".

I like it.

Certainly hide the Profanisaurus first. Lunching at the Lazy Y first might get you across the line.
