Seems I have egg on my face with Shaun Marsh at 122 n.o. at the moment. I was pretty dismissive of his original selection. The rest of the top order (well 4 players anyway) fell around him but Marsh stood up. Kudos for Smith as well, has partnered Marsh and is nearing his own ton.

Nope, his selection was completely unjustified. There is no way he deserved to be in that squad given his form.

I love how Boof actually sits and watches the game unlike most coaches who sit behind computers and look over footage and stats while the game is happening in front of the. He's fostering an old school cricket team environment and I reckon he thinks Marsh is a perfect fit for that.

P.S saying something has Boof all over it sounds a bit off.

This has Inverarity all over it. Based on form alone, there is no way that Marsh should be playing. Yes he's batted well thus far in the match, but he shouldn't have been there. Simple as that.

As stupid as it sounds you don't always pick on form, it's the vibe. Marsh is 30 he's the right age for his final tilt at test cricket. If he fails the selectors will look stupid but you can't say he shouldn't have been picked after he's just saved our asses sitting on 120 no.

Marsh on talent is in our best 6 batsmen. when your coming back from injury in 1 game out of every 3 there's a reason his average is well below par. on Doolan i was very skeptical on his selection but he played like more a number 3 than Watson ever has last night, if Watsons not at 3 thats a good inclusion for mine.

In four of the five Ashes Tests, Australia was 5 for less than 145 in their first innings. In other words, the top 6 is shocking.

The media release and press conference in which Inverarity attempted to justify the selections of Doolan and, especially, Marsh over Hughes were lessons in illogicality and self-contradiction. Inverarity said that Doolan “looks a very good player — good technique, time, plays pace bowling well.” (emphasis added) The key word there is “looks” — for Doolan’s recent and overall first-class records in no way prove that he is nearly as good a batsman as Inverarity says he is, and the only specific piece of empirical evidence that Inverarity referred to to support his bold proposition — “a most impressive 165 not out” that Doolan scored for Australia A against South Africa at the SCG — is now well over a year old.

On the subject of Marsh, Inverarity started contradicting himself as soon as he opened his mouth, first saying that Marsh’s last two ODI innings — 55 and 71 not out against England — were “very important” to his selection in the Test squad for South Africa, before immediately adding: “although we did decide finally on the side on Saturday afternoon, that was before that.”

I think Inverarity controversially selected Marsh ahead of Sellar as well by the sounds of it.

Based on everything that Inverarity could actually judge (form), the wrong changes were made. Even if we do half decently in this series, I won't be happy with the selectors.
