You'll probably find the extremely hot weather is directly related to the large amounts of sunspots currently on the sun. There is one the size of jupiter right now. Historically, the number of sunspots on the sun directly correlates to global temperatures. Once those spots cool, so will the average temperature.

It doesn't explain however, the increase in extreme weather on both sides of the spectrum, my total guess is that it's just the natural phases of the earth.

Most scientists are unconvinced about everything, that's why they're scientists. That changes nothing about what the published work says.
