Come a long way from this;

I'm so old that's the last videogame I really got into ;)

Usually about 15 seconds in to a football conversation with someone I know if I want it to continue or if I want to back out at a high rate of knots. Cannot stand talking to someone who knows all they know about football from 5CC.

The logical thing here is that if everybody stole say, GoT....would it still be an ongoing project? It's one thing to say that being pirated is like 'winning an Emmy', it's another to have no finances to continue production
I 'acquire' GoT via the interwebz (I have Foxtel, but not the package that has GoT), but I also own all 3 seasons on Blu-Ray. They still get money out of me is the way I see it :)

Theoretically you haven't stolen it have you? Some movies you purchase in disc form nowadays have that code where you can also download them to your hard drive

Exactly. 100% piracy would mean that production would have to survive on revenue from merchandising alone which I doubt would be viable.

Unless you want to buy a Joffrey figurine to microwave. But I agree Wharfie. Anyone can steal, the question is would you?

Well the Blu Rays don't generally come out until quite a bit after the season has aired, so in essence I am 'borrowing' it for a period, and then making payment at a later date. :)

Feel.... Its Wednesday.... Come on man !

Banner ?

for ****s sake.

miss feel informs me she'll do it tonight and says people are 'sledding for a beheading' pushing for the banner to be done, as you can't rush art.

They still seem to be doing ok. The smart operators, of which HBO is one, know that the model needs to change to accommodate the new technology so they don't care as much about people torrenting their shows. I would be willing to bet that their subscriptions have risen dramatically over the last 5 years. (ever wondered why the HBO 'static' intro is always there on every show that's downloaded? I have and I don't think this is just a coincidence.)

My guess is that ISPs will become the new 'broadcasters' and the revenue model will be structured around the cost of download data from various sources.

To me, the issue is not really about price. It's about availability. Give the punter easy access to on demand entertainment and they'll more than likely pay for it. You'll never eradicate piracy completely but right now, almost everyone who watches GoT in Australia is doing so illegally. This points to the law being out of date with consumer expectations and current technology.

This.

I didn't download The Walking Dead this season because it was on Foxtel within hours of US broadcast.

I'm still downloading Game of Thrones because there's more of a delay.

Ok. So the logic is thus: Delay + impatience = stealing
