In Adelaide for the weekend. Anniversary is tomorrow, missus doesn't overly care what we do and has sort of put me in charge.

So, what do you reckon, Alberton?

It's funny you should say that. At 7am this morning I knew the only way out of this was to drink more.

Pub opens at 10.

I was at the bar at half time when the audience "proposal" happened. The friend I was watching the game with told me about it and I think I pissed her off a bit when I told her that was the worst kind of disgusting narcissistic bullshit. lawl.

He said Brisbane's were 3rd world...
Interesting point ( o_O ) but according to QI the term 'Third World' is almost never used appropriately but it not as commonly thought poor and underdeveloped.
I forgot the details so went to Wikipedia's entry which says ".... French demographer, anthropologist and historian Alfred Sauvy, in an article published in the French magazine L'Observateur, August 14, 1952, coined the term Third World, referring to countries that were unaligned with either the Communist Soviet bloc or the Capitalist NATO bloc during the Cold War ...". Professor Powerstufff has spoken.

Damn.. I thought I did well to not leave any spelling errors in my post, but this is a whole new level ;).

actually thats incorrect. western nations were considered first world, second world were nations that were aligned to the soviet union, and third world nations were those that were considered unworthy of aligning with, due to their lack of use...mostly due to being poor. this is where the third world terminology stuck to the poor nations.,

BTW..i lived in russia for a number of years, and read a lot of the cold war while there. i am now back in brisbane and married to a russian. unfortunately this means my kids are half russian. but i still love them :)

Right back at you with incorrect. I know the issues with using Wikipedia as a source but the following from the link quoted in my earlier post seems reasonable "... Because many Third World countries were extremely poor, and non-industrialized, it became a stereotype to refer to poor countries as "third world countries", yet the "Third World" term is also often taken to include newly industrialized countries like India, Brazil or China. Historically, some European countries were part of the non-aligned movement and a few were and are very prosperous, including Switzerland and Austria ....."

Poland Eurovision song - We are Slavic - in polish didn't really grab me but the visuals of hand washing the clothes and churning butter have them winning the comp as far as I'm concerned. As Sam Pang said join the other 40 million watching.

i assume 'right back at you' meant you agree. the rest of what you added is correct. the third world terminology has stuck to countries such as india etc due to their current standard of living.
