The character Rik Mayall developed in his portrayal of the 1980's undergraduate student radical in The Young Ones is to me still one of the greatest TV characters ever. Absolutely nailed it.

The grown up version in Bottom was just as good. One of my favourite comedians (after Rowan Atkinson) such a shame!

A comedy legend, RIP Lord Flashheart

Rik Mayall was as un-celebrity as you could possibly get. He wasn't some obnoxious, dickhead A-Lister, he was just a very funny guy who, with his mates, rose to some prominence doing what they'd been doing for years. Growing up I knew and hung out with people just like him.
I'm not mourning the death of a "celebrity", I couldn't give less of a **** about his status as a celebrity. Just paying tribute to someone who gave me and my friends a lot of laughs during our mid to late teens.

My point was you are accusing people of mourning when they might just be fondly remembering.

I didn't know the guy but as finny said the guy gave people of our age and ilk many laughs. I'm not sad at all by his passing but it has reminded me of some ****ing funny times watching him and people like him.
