Can't believe no one has mentioned Frasier! One of the all time best sitcoms and arguably the best ever spin-off series ever produced

Back in the day, The Young Ones had me laughing my head off.
Forgot how annoying the laughter track is though.

**** Frasier. **** him in the poohole til he dies.

He killed Cheers.

Not sure if that was directed at me wr but I lived in Sydney, north, east and west suburbs all up for 15 years between 1992-2010 - the rest in SE Queensland.

When the AFL said they were going to put a side in western sydney I told D_One, and I think I even posted it on the main board, that there is only one nickname for a western sydney team that is relevant to the 1.8 million people who live in the 14 councils and that would be Traffic. The Greater Western Sydney Traffic would have been a catchy name IMHO. Traffic over Sydney, but especially Western Sydney is diabolical. Shit planning caused that and its why people dont travel to watch their NRL teams in large numbers. Ok having 2 city/near city based stadiums in Melbourne helps boost the numbers for the AFL but pre Docklands days Vic/Melbourne people traveled to watch their team - home and away - so much more than Sydney.

Plus the great weather in winter time and the habour means there are so many other things you can in June/July/August than go watch a footy game.

COLA is needed at the bottom end of the scale, but players on $500k+ (even $300k) dont need it. The guys getting the big $$$ set themselves up in the eastern suburbs and hardly have to leave a 10-15 km radius from their - mainly when they have to play out Homebusch, and they get a lifestyle they wouldnt be able to get in Melbourne. How many AFL footballers in Melbourne, Brisbane or Adelaide can have surf in the morning for an hour before they head off to work and drive 10 minutes from Bondi and Bronte and 15 from Marouba. Plus there are other advantages in Sin City close to town that other cities dont offer - or offer as regularly.

I said from day 1 when the AFL said they were going to put a second side in Sydney that setting up the GWS in Blacktown was rubbish. No 18 year old would want to live there if he got decent money. Wrote about that on the main board and got criticized. Great idea whoever came up with it to set the GWS guys up at the decade old suburb of Breakfast Point - in a US College type set up - right on the harbour - right on the edge of what is called inner western Sydney - 15 kms from town, 20kms from the beach, 3 kms to work at Sydney Olympic Park and 25 kms away from Blacktown.
I have lived in Ryde, Epping, Homebush, Blacktown and Penrith.
Have no desire to ever go back to Western Sydney ever again. It is a shithole of the highest order and if I was a footballer I would rather live in Darwin.

Working construction in the build upto the Olympics took me to some great places, yes.
And I am glad you like Darwin, I meant that at least there are things to do outside of footy in Darwin, unlike Western Sydney, where you can sit in a car for 45 minutes and goto the beach with 250,000 other people

...goto the beach with 250,000 other people

In Sydney with only that many people?

You must know a secluded spot or have gone in winter.

I have lived in Ryde, Epping...

Had to go out that way pretty much every day for two years.

Catching the train was Russian roulette! Lost count of the times the train simply didn't arrive. Sometimes City-friggin-fail even had the courtesy to announce it's non-arrival. But mostly I just stood on the platform with other bemused commuters wondering where's the f@%king train?

Chuckle every time I hear people complain about the trains in dear old Adelaide...

Well you can go to the beach in Darwin and you can go for a swim if you are game lol

My sister had her honeymoon in Darwin. Helping friends repair their houses after Tracy.
My sister and Hubby was in Darwin when Tracy hit. Coles sent him there for 6 months and they lived in a caravan at the back of Coles managers place. They never saw that caravan again nor their clothes etc. etc. They were glad to get back to Adelaide. Funny enough their eldest son is the Meat Manager for Coles in Darwin now and loves it.

I remember an old Four Corners program in the early 1970s that aired the locals' grievances about the Fannie Bay Gaol, calling it an eyesore and that any prisoner with a can opener could escape its corrugated iron walls.

After Cyclone Tracy did some damage to the gaol in 1974 it was instantly transformed to a historic landmark by the swarming media pack.

Wow. Just introducing himself could trigger harrassment suits.

Bullshit.

Swim at Mindil Beach during the dry all the time.

Used to take my dog Rooster and a tennis ball, throw the tennis ball out as far as I could and if Rooster came back I'd have a swim. Water is clear that time of year you can see the crocs anyway.
